the rampant usage of racial slurs are:
a) explicity against the posting guidelines.
b) grossly offensive.
c) gives the distinct impression that the posters, nc state students and alumni, and nc state university cultivate racism and prejudice. as a matter of fact, tww has gained a reputation as being a racist environment.

i mean, there was a point when posters were actually reprimanded for promoting racist propaganda, and malicously and irresponsibly using racial slurs. then, it started to become a joke to some. i realize that it may be difficult for alot of the regular posters to understand (may have something to do with the vast majority of the posters being white), but racial slurs shouldn't be a joking matter.

I tend to believe that NC State does cultivate an environment of racism and prejudice. A lot of this is based upon the geographic location from which many NC State students come. Outside of a few places of large development, North Carolina is intolerant of people who are gay or of a different race.

anyway, tww has changed a lot in the past few years.

i was suspended (old username) for calling a chick a "dumb blonde", and then when i was let back in after a week, i called her the same again, and i was terminated.

these days, you can use nigger, cracker, camel jockey, towel head, etc, like there is no tomorrow. and more poignantly, some racial slurs are somewhat accepted and those who say them are not punished, whereas other racial slurs are more likely to get you punished.

we can all wish, but tww is not a just place nor a democracy.

i think there are people who use racial slurs conversationally (to include on this website) who are not racist at all, and there are people who completely shy away from such inflammatory language who are clearly racist (and, obviously, racist people who use racist language).

i wouldn't be worried about a specific set of words so much as the bigger picture conveyed by what people say...but that's tougher to put a finger on. Getting all balled up about a set of specific words is the easy--but less effective and sensible--way out.

I'm reminded of George Carlin's famous bit about "7 Words You Can't Say On Television".

Oh, and in any case, it would have to be pretty extreme before I'd be in favor of getting restrictive in terms of moderation.
