So I get $400 from insurance. Time to do something about the brakes, I think. I've been killing the front discs for what seems like 6 months or more. Thought about doing a break swap to get some bigger discs, but haven't decided. I'm sure I'll probably need new rotors anyway, so a caliper for both sides for a bigger rotor wouldn't be all that much difference, right?
Here's the car: 95 Civic del Sol S (low-end trim) front discs (smallest they sold on the car, I think only 9") rear drums (again, only trim with drums)
No mods on the motor, but I'm gonna keep this car forever, and I think a swap may very well be in the future of this car before all's said and done. So since I gotta do some kind of brake work, should I upgrade, or just do new pads and rotors on the front, inspect the rears?
since the money's there, I want to do the best thing for the money
Thanks for the help! 11/12/2006 11:54:00 AM |

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A BRAKE SWAP.
YOU DONT NEED IT, YOU NEVER WILL NEED IT.
JUST BUY SOME BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS FROM AUTOZONE AND CALL IT A DAY.
put the money into something usefull 11/12/2006 11:56:44 AM |

I'd look at suspension upgrades first. 11/12/2006 1:53:41 PM |

^ good idea JBaz
Strut bars, etc. an easy install? The slo's have lots of flex in em anyway, so I can probably use all the help I can throw at it. 11/12/2006 2:47:51 PM |

I'd look at buying a new car to do shit to. $400 + the $400 you'd get for selling the del sol = $800 you can spend on something that's not quite as piece-of-shitty 11/12/2006 2:54:54 PM |

well, insurance pretty much banks on a $300 player... didn't even have to worry about providing proof (it was $280 about 3 years ago), and then they tack on an installation fee for "professional" installation. $0 deductible and niko wins this round.
There's nothing inherently wrong with my car, and I still think it's a great ride. Might not be worth anything, but I still love it. I don't mind keeping the money for other things (debt included), but cash is cash! 11/12/2006 5:01:41 PM |

Yep. I'd drop $50 on a CD player off Craigslist or the Classifieds and call it a day. I don't get dumping money into a car just because you have money to dump. 11/12/2006 5:01:52 PM |
