CZ-75B, 9mm/.40
Springfield Mil-Spec 1911, .45ACP
XD, 9mm/.40/.45ACP

(I hate Glocks, and they are overpriced like whoa.)

Since you seem to like large caliber weapons, how about a Desert Eagle .44 magnum?

prolly never even shot one.

primer, just get you a 9mm if you plan on shooting frequently. get a .45 if you plan on shooting every now and then.

If you want at good pistol just to have fun with, get a Heritage Rough Rider .22. They are cheap, tough, and a lot of fun. I've had one for years and enjoyed it a lot.

M9 Baretta? I know it's "lame" to a lot of gun people, but i love them. I've gone through 1000 rounds in a day with one before and always wanted to go back for more. I don't know if 9mm really meets your "powerful" requirement

Only smaller caliber that won't break the bank is 9mm. 40 is about on par with .45, and 9mm beats both.

I'd say Steyr M9A1, or IMI/IWI Baby Eagle.

If you want small caliber and cheap ammo and dead-on shots, you should get a Ruger .22 pistol. It's fun for plinking, and if an intruder makes the mistake of breaking into your residence, you should be able to put every round on his nose--with little or no recoil.

The Springfield Armory's XD is pretty bitchin, got NRA Gun of the Year or some such award, don't know how they fit 14 .45 rounds in that size a gun either........definitely on my wish list

If I'd never shot one, I'd just call them ugly. It takes exposure to develop hate.

I own a few handguns and have shot just about everything, and I love my Glock.

Don't let the haters talk you out of giving the Glock it's fair shake.

i know they make interchanngable barrels for the DE i think u could get a .50 AE and get a .357 mag barrel and just shoot 38 spl thru it.

as far as good guns go sigs, h&k, springfield, and glock. some of the guns may break the bank but depending on what caliber u get the ammo shouldn't. I have almost exclusively 45's, i bought a walther p22 just to plink b/c ammo prices were eating me up.

edit: most ppl either love or hate glocks. it's like the ford vs chevy some ppl are just die hard fans of one. i like mine, it is very reliable, and shoots good.

my uncle bought a taurus pt 24/7, for the money it's not a bad gun. it just wouldn't be my first choice.

id get something with a picatinny rail then so you can add a tactical light/ laser down the road should you desire.

my favorite gun is my ruger p345 with the rail. also my least expensive gun.

the xd-45 is pretty sweet as well, but too large for me to use for all applications.

the ruger is a perfect mix
