A car trailer? I have several things to move this coming weekend, and I needs a trailer. I'll rent one if I have to, but money is pretty tight right now, so if I can avoid it, I would love to. 11/14/2006 5:33:40 PM |

What? you're ditching the 'Teg ?
I guess I'm not surprised. The body is in such poor shape these days. Time to start over with another car. Get a DC2 or something. 11/15/2006 12:16:05 AM |

what you do is go to a rental company that s closed on the weekends on friday and say i want to rent a trailer for just one day and they will be like ok we will let you rent it for 24 hours but you have to return it on monday...so in turn you will get 4 days of the trailer for the price for renting it for one. 11/15/2006 8:28:09 AM |

does anyone know if it's required by law in NC to have brake lights on a trailer? (it's about an 8' trailer, single axle, with reflectors on the back gate... and not that it matters, but all brake lights on my truck are visible while towing)
reason - i need to travel with it Friday night to Winston Salem... it's usually only pulled during daylight hours 11/16/2006 2:25:49 PM |

I've pulled one at night before, but I don't know the legality of it.
I would think that, as long as you have reflectors and your brake lights are in plain view, then you shouldn't have any problems.
I may be wrong, so why don't you check out DOT's website? 11/16/2006 3:16:20 PM |

20-129(D)
Rear Lamps. – Every motor vehicle, and every trailer or semitrailer attached to a motor vehicle and every vehicle which is being drawn at the end of a combination of vehicles, shall have all originally equipped rear lamps or the equivalent in good working order, which lamps shall exhibit a red light plainly visible under normal atmospheric conditions from a distance of 500 feet to the rear of such vehicle. One rear lamp or a separate lamp shall be so constructed and placed that the number plate carried on the rear of such vehicle shall under like conditions be illuminated by a white light as to be read from a distance of 50 feet to the rear of such vehicle. Every trailer or semitrailer shall carry at the rear, in addition to the originally equipped lamps, a red reflector of the type which has been approved by the Commissioner and which is so located as to height and is so maintained as to be visible for at least 500 feet when opposed by a motor vehicle displaying lawful undimmed lights at night on an unlighted highway.
Notwithstanding the provisions of the first paragraph of this subsection, it shall not be necessary for a trailer weighing less than 4,000 pounds, or a trailer described in G.S. 20-51(6) weighing less than 6,500 pounds, to carry or be equipped with a rear lamp, provided such vehicle is equipped with and carries at the rear two red reflectors of a diameter of not less than three inches, such reflectors to be approved by the Commissioner, and which are so designed and located as to height and are maintained so that each reflector is visible for at least 500 feet when approached by a motor vehicle displaying lawful undimmed headlights at night on an unlighted highway. 11/16/2006 4:53:45 PM |

so... it sounds like towing a john deere riding mower on a small single axle trailer (definitely < 4000 lbs) would only require the red reflectors (which i have)
someone please correct me if i'm wrong 11/16/2006 5:58:13 PM |

I've got some prtable/transferable trailer lights (flashers, just plugs into the cig lighter plug, and the lights are magnetic mount) you can use. Should at least save you the hassle of being pulled by a dumbass that doesn't really know the law. 11/16/2006 6:37:13 PM |
