Watch only indicates possibility of severe weather...you really need to start paying attention when the NWS starts issuing Warnings...11/16/2006 12:44:06 AM |

you are a douche bag.
I remember when tornadoes hit raleigh in Nov. of 89 (may have been 88). Fucked up a lot of stuff and people died.

Does anyone know exactly where this park is. I just walked from the Cape Fear River access by the paper mill into Riegelwood last week. From the river, you walk through a golf course, then through a road with a bunch of trailerparks on it to get to 87.
Terrible news. My heart goes out to those folks.

it is true tornados like trailer parks.
seems like everytime a tornado touches down it always ravages some trailer park. seriously what percentage of buildings are trailers. 11/16/2006 10:06:47 PM |

Down there - a shitload. That area is dirt poor. When I was walking through some guy was pulling off parts of a burned out trailer to add to his place. 11/16/2006 10:16:25 PM |

^^They had a tornado that hit about 5 miles from here (in Eastern Lincoln Co.) early yesterday morning that hit some nice housing development. Only a few houses were hit, but there was between 5-10 million dollars of damage. Like them in Riegelwood, we don't have sirens or alarms to inform us of a tornado warning. Thankfully, the one near here was only an F2 at worse (some meteorologists say F0, others say F2), and only some property was destroyed. 11/17/2006 1:43:54 PM |

Jesus, according to the paper, I was within a couple of hundred yards of where this all went down on Pretty Branch Road.
Here's the map. I walked up Golf Course Road from the Cape Fear River to get to 87. Riegelwood proper is to the south about a mile down the 87 from that intersection. Sounds like Armour also got hit by this same tornado.
