That Suburban did DAMN WELL.
I'm not sure a lotus is a very good car to make autonomous... Seems to me that something with more room inside and more ground clearance (for WHEN it goes over a curb) would be better and less expensive.

sure it's small inside, but it's not like you need seats and all the other human control interfaces 11/16/2006 5:07:17 PM |

The Lotus was $Free, I'm sure they'll make anything work that doesn't cost anything

its pretty neat. i know the guy who leads insight racing. he said he is going to change the transmission and put in power steering and have AC going to the trunk.
i am glad there is some sexy publicity from state. 11/18/2006 6:18:32 PM |

it would have been more appropriate if they had donated the red one instead of the blue one 11/19/2006 6:01:54 PM |

Yea I don't know much about the DARPA challenge other then the fact that it goes off road.
I don't know how that would work with the elise. 11/20/2006 11:50:30 AM |

^ as stated above this the DARPA urban challenge.
"Teams will compete to build an autonomous vehicle able to complete a 60-mile urban course safely in less than 6 hours."
I think this is taking the place of the Grand Challenge (off road) this year but I couldn't tell for sure.
Lotus should be fine for urban driving. I guess an SUV would be better if you accidentally hop onto a curb though... 11/20/2006 12:06:39 PM |

"complete a 60-mile urban course safely"
Hmm, might preclude hopping a curb anyways. Practice/QA/testing will suck for that poor Lotus though, lol 11/20/2006 12:24:30 PM |
