now that he is a borderline superstar and his stock is at an all-time high, when will Philip get national endorsement deals?

or

is he too nice and down homey to get a big deal? Torry is the best WR in the league, but since he's such a well behaved dude, you don't see him pushing anything but Fathead wall graphics

He's gonna be doing mastercard commercials with Peyton by the beginning of next year after he wins the superbowl this year.

I think it's just a matter of time before he's recognized as a breakout QB. He's having a terrific season with the Chargers, and with a little more experience under his belt he may become the new elway.

If Rivers was either in VA, SC, GA, or obviously NC... we'd be seeing him in Pepsi ads.

Maybe not nationally, at least for the next few years.

But if Jake Delhomme can get Bojangles commercials, you can get Phil can get something thats big at least in SoCo.

By its very nature, the NFL minimalizes the individual. There are really only a handful of players that really seem to be major marketing forces -- Peyton Manning, Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb, Tom Brady, and even then it pales in comparison to the level of marketing surrounding NBA players.

Rivers is so young though, and he doesn't play like a rookie. I remember his first season with the Chargers, some of the veterans were shocked to see their rookie QB come into the huddle shouting orders fearlessly. He's impressed a lot of people, and he brings results. He's the real deal I think.

Yeah seriously. Rivers has the personality to be marketable...AND he's a good quarterback. His time will come.

i think both points are wrong. look at all of peyton manning's commercials to refute point 1, you cant watch football on sunday w/out seeing manning 15-20 times.

and how many receivers are marketed, period? Torry is actually one of the few i have seen w/ his ?underarmor? commercial.

I don't think it matters really. When you are that good at what you do, and that young, anything is an option.

I wonder if he had any say in being in that commercial. Either way, I thought it was a funny commercial.

He totally could, from a personality stand point hes basically a Peyton clone: southern accent, aww shucks, humble, gives a lot of credit to his team mates, really football smart, doesnt get into trouble etc... but the only thing is there might not be room for two of those in the NFL...at least not nationally

Yeah, let him finish out the season and keep up this productivity and he's a lock to get some promotional deals next year.

I would love to see him vs. Peyton in commercials for the biggest fan of people around the city, haha, those commercials would be great.

Phillip needs a few good games and maybe a season or 2 before you can give him the fame of GOD. I will admit right now he is great and he is very dedicated to the game. Look at Big Ben everyone thought he was great his first 2 years now he is having some problems. Over all yes Phillip Rivers can sell. If you are nice and respectful of the media they will give you props when you earn it.

I doubt him and Peyton would have a commercial together when Eli is Phil's biggest young rival to the spotlight, and has already been in several commercials with Peyton.

I can Phillip doing a Milk Commercial no problem and honestly I can see him doing something with Underarmor or its equivalent...If he finishes the season as strong as he has started...I am sure we will see him appearing in some commercials...

And when/if PR gets voted to Pro Bowl and does stellar at QB challenge....it's going to be on

A whole show of Outside The Lines or something was dedicated to the marketability of Peyton Manning...much of the discussion was how come Peyton is so much more marketable than Tom Brady or Michael Vick. And the answer was that he goes out and GETS advertising instead of just waiting for it to come to him. Philip fits the same mold as Peyton but is going to have to want to put his face out there...I dunno if that's how he rolls though. He probably still drives that 89 Taurus he had

I wouldn't go that far, but he does seem pretty down-to-Earth as opposed to most other super(semi)stars that want their name everywhere.

^ haha, I am sure its a question of not being offered more so than not wanting to do it... something tells me if Visa, or Coke, or whatever offered him the $$$ associated for a national advertising campaign, he would do it, I dont think he has to worry about "keepin it real" or "selling out"

He's featured in this DirecTV spot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EatnhTFY3bs

and this ESPN spot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWUbonWozIo

But he's a pretty private person from what I hear, and has zero interest in becoming a cult of personality a la Favre, Manning, and Brady.
