lol i did this when changing the oil filter on my Impala... was the first oil change i did since the block was rebuilt and painted... couldnt figure out why oil was pouring out form the filter 11/21/2006 11:41:49 AM |

It wasn't today, but the last time I changed the oil on my bimmer I left a rag in the engine bay. Hilarity ensued when I was sitting at a red light and smoke started pouring out of the hood from where the rag fell on the exhaust manifold.
Do you know how pissed I would have been if Jiffy Lube made that mistake?
lol @ myself for that idiocy. 11/21/2006 11:46:09 AM |

Lets see what else, was changing the oil in the accord and forget to put the fill cap back on properly, think i just set it in there and forgot to tighten it up
started the car and heard a knock, what i would later find out was the oil cap sliding off the engine and hitting the fan, then didnt think much of it and proceeded to drive 300 miles with it off spewing oil all over my engine bay on that side... though the oil cap was lodged on the frame of the car, so i just had to get it out and put it back in 11/21/2006 11:51:44 AM |

A couple days ago I was trying to get the driveshaft off my 7 before taking out the transmission. There are four bolts on the rear flange, and you have to take one off, rotate it, take another off, etc. For the fucking life of me I couldn't get that thing to turn. I didn't know what the hell was wrong. I just struggled with it for a while.
Then I said "fuck it, I need to change the rear brake rotors." So I'm trying to get the rotors off, and I'm positive I've gotten the bolts off, but it just won't fucking budge. I spend an hour and a half trying to get either the driveshaft or the brake caliper off.
Turns out I had my parking brake on... 11/21/2006 9:54:39 PM |

dumbest car thing I ever did was catch my dad putting transmission fluid in the engine case, laugh at him, clean it out and then proceed to fill it back up again with transmission fluid. To my defense, the gallon jugs were identical except for in tiny letters it said transmission fluid, and oil. What we get for not using the containers the stuff comes in. 11/22/2006 8:32:18 AM |

most recent thing: was putting an electric motor together at work and had it all back together and I hooked it up to a battery to make sure it's working right. Doesn't even budge, but the control board is getting power, so I'm like shit . . . i fucked up. So I take it all the way back apart and I forgot to engage the springs that hold the brushes on the commutator.
most retarded : my neighbor had this late 80's civic si beater and we had been working on it in front of my garage. We get finished and he he is putting the tools away so I figure I will crank it up and see how it's running. The car was a 5-speed and for some reason the neutral start switch wasn't hooked up . . . so normally when we we're working on it we'd just reach in the open window and crank it. Well this time he had left it in 1st and I'll be damned if that bitch didn't try to run all the way through the garage when I cranked it. It was kind of a funny sight afterwards . . . me with my legs hanging out of the car because i kind of dove in to hit the brake or something with my hand, my dad's good table saw all mangled bewteen the car and a fridge, a fwe other things between the car and the wall, and my neighbor just standing there like 6 inches from the car with a ratchet in his hand with the biggest "holy shit, wtf just happened" look on his face. If he hadn't been squatting down with the tools the table saw would have got him pretty good. Needless to say . . . my mom was pretty pissed and we still haven't lived that one down. 11/22/2006 8:47:25 AM |

Not something I did, but still retarded. My brother finished plumbing his car after bolting a turbo to it, and had done all the wiring/preliminary tuning. He decided he wanted to crank it up and did so. The engine made some horrible noises and wouldn't run for more than 1 second. Then we noticed ginormous puddle of oil under the car. Yeah, he forgot to put an oil filter on his car. 11/23/2006 1:05:33 AM |

I was replacing a starter on my car which required some deft movemet between the block and the transmission and forgot to disconnect the battery cable. I'm using a metal wrench with no plastic padding on the handle. I go to loosen the nuts off of the electrical connections of the start and touch the back end of the wrench to the block. All of a sudden I've got a fuckload of sparks coming into my face and smoke everywhere. I caught some of my hair on fire too. 11/23/2006 6:36:26 PM |

Had the heads rebuilt on the ford. Went to button everything up, and couldn't find the plastic petcock for the radiator. Went to the parts store, no petcock for a '73 300 c.i. I 6, grab a handfull of random other makes. Get one for a 90's Honda (I think) in. Fire the truck up, it runs like SHIT. Puffs black smoke for a minute, then the motor clears up.
I think I located the petcock (on top of the piston)
