May I respecfully suggest dropping the decent milege requirement and going for an M3. It's worth it. Ahmet 11/25/2006 2:49:00 AM |

i dont want to pay for gas in a 540, but i have considered a couple e34's. ive also found a couple e39 528's in my price range but they have higher mileage than id like. 11/25/2006 6:44:11 PM |

I like all of the above mentioned cars. I can also understand the insurance side of the equation w/the M3, things aren't cheap to insure...
There are a couple of things that really bother me with non M 3 series that never bothered me before I spent some time w/the M cars (heavy flywheel being one). If you get a 3 series, having the sports package really helps, w/the sport seats and other nice stuff. I'm sure $7k could get you a descent 328 or something.
I will second the e34 suggestion, those are cool cars also. I have to think though, if you don't mind a coupe, something like $7500 could probably put you in a descent M3 after some haggling. I'll stop w/that. Ahmet 11/25/2006 6:51:57 PM |

got a e34 540 if you're interested. As far as gas mileage, i don't know what you would consider to be bad. I've been getting 17 mpg. 11/25/2006 7:23:51 PM |

put the rest of it on a 0% credit card. M3 will hold the value more down the road and if you go for the 4-door, insurance might be ok. the whole deal with picking up an E36 non-m is that they will run maybe $2k less than M3 and you get much less car, than what price would suggest. imho of course

i mean the $7k involves borrowing money, so no to credit cards. i make pretty good money, but im still a student and the payments for the loan i would need for a $7k car are as high as im willing to go. in a couple years i'll get something nice. 11/26/2006 9:50:33 PM |

I really don't see an M3 getting gas mileage much better than 17...at least around town. 11/27/2006 2:13:00 PM |

Well its EPA city rating is 20mpg, so real world I'd imagine that to be 18-19mpg, which isn't far off of 17mpg. 11/27/2006 4:32:24 PM |
