"Nov. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov was placed into a coma after suffering severe burns when the Ferrari he was driving crashed and burst into flames in Nice on the French Riviera on Nov. 25.

Doctors at Marseille burns hospital La Conception will wait 48 hours before deciding on a diagnosis, said a spokeswoman for the city's hospitals who declined to be identified. Severely burned patients are often placed in an artificially induced coma, the spokeswoman said today by phone. Kerimov's family asked the hospital not to disclose detailed information on his condition.

The 40-year-old businessman, worth $7.1 billion according to Forbes magazine, was speeding and weaving through traffic when he lost control of a black Ferrari Enzo on the Promenade des Anglais, the boulevard that runs along the Nice shoreline as he was speeding, said the policeman in Nice who is heading the investigation into the crash. The policeman, who spoke by telephone today, declined to be named, citing French regulations.

Kerimov lost control of the Ferrari while overtaking another car, hitting the sidewalk and then a tree before the engine caught fire, the policeman said. Traffic rules limit cars on the Promenade des Anglais to 50 kilometers (31 miles) per hour.

Investigators carried out chemical and technical tests on the wreckage of the Ferrari that allowed police to rule out the possibility the crash resulted from an assassination attempt, the policeman said.

Lost Control

Kerimov, who arrived in Nice on a private jet with his friend Tina Kondelaki, a Russian television presenter, was driving a Ferrari loaned to him by a friend, the policeman said.

Russian daily Kommersant printed a photograph on today's front page showing what it said was the two pieces of the burned car, surrounded by firefighting foam.

Bree Schuette, a spokeswoman for Kerimov's OAO MNPO Polymetal in St, Petersburg, said she couldn't comment on the businessman's condition.

Kerimov was transported by helicopter to La Conception in Marseille after the sports car caught fire.

The billionaire's clothes were on fire as he jumped out of the Ferrari and his face was the most severely-burned area, the policeman said, citing unidentified witnesses.

Kondelaki was admitted to a hospital in Nice shortly after the incident. She was lightly injured and left the premises quickly to head back to Russia before investigators could interview her, the policeman said.

A woman at CTC's press office declined to comment or be identified when Bloomberg called today. Kondelaki didn't answer her mobile phone when Bloomberg called.

^^^ I heard they do actually...something about separating passenger from engine. Makes for some ugly looking wrecks though, every one I've seen has been torn in half.

^"treat our stuff?" are you talking about Ferrari taking their cars back when they abuse them? If so, you're an idiot.

Fuck those greasy haired gold chain unibrow Italians.

If I spent that much on a fucking car I would do whatever the hell I wanted to with it.

i hate niggers who say cars are not to be driven.

its a super car for crying out loud. pretty much an F1 car. you cant just drive it 20 mph, this shit was built to be pushed.

same goes for other cars that are built and sold for that purpose. you dont buy a bike and not experience the reason you bought it now do you?

some morons do, they just want the look... Just look at how flat the middle of some sports bike riders rear tire is from going in straight lines all the time. Also knows as SLUGS in the whole sports bike scene thing.

But, that's not really the point... I too hate anybody that says a car isn't to be driven or anything similar for that matter. People see me getting new shoes dirty or a scratch on my new iPod or some shit like that and bitch at me for ruining my stuff... I'm like fuck you nigger I bought the shit to use, if I didn't wanna use it I'd have saved the money and left the shit at the store

Why I agree that these cars are made to be driven and pushed:

A. This guy was obviously a shitty driver.
B. You don't go pushing a car like that on a sidewalk-lined street with a speed limit of 31.

jesus christ you are some dumb motherfuckers

the point was that if you are fucking stupid enough to wreck your million dollar car, you're never going to get it back now that it's been torn asunder...no frame straightening will ever put front and back together

seriously, pull your head out of your asses and learn to read contextually

first of all, you are and idiot. ferrari has come out and said they can rebuild ANY wrecked enzo. second, show me the frame on an enzo. go ahead, ill wait.

as far as the car splitting in half, carbon fiber has a tendency to shatter rather than wrap itself around light poles or trees does it not.

atleast he loaned it to a billionaire, and not some broke ass. still, it's an enzo. you can't just go get a new one at a dealership. i wouldn't loan an enzo.

that's illegal in the united states, and i'm sure it's illegal in france (where traffic laws are much more strict). what a shady ho.

The point of this wreck (and every other Enzo wreck) is that driving cars (any cars) at extremely high rates of speed on the road is a bad idea. Whether or not you are a good driver has little to do with it... the fact is, city streets were not built for cars traveling at excessively high rates of speed. I'm all for driving cars like Enzos, both on the street and on the track, but high speed driving/racing should be left for the track and driving around town should be done for the pure enjoyment of driving a the car.
