how's the serial # from the radio gonna do him any good? If it isn't the code listed as the default code in the owners manual then it has been changed and they wouldn't be able to do anything from over the phone? 11/28/2006 12:41:46 PM |

yep, you'll need to call gm for the actual code. here's how to get the code they'll need to give you the unlock code:
1. turn it on 2. hold the 2/3 preset buttons for a few seconds, some numbers will come up. 3 or 4 of them iirc, write them down. 3. press the am/fm button. some more numbers will come up, write them down. 4. there's your numbers, call gm and based on those you'll get the actual unlock code.
should work for you. i had to do this alot when i worked at a gm dealer vs. reflashing the thing, but it was on newer vehicles. should be same for your 98 though.
EDIT: dug up the phone number i used to use- 1-800-537-5140. when the dude starts taking, punch in 139010 followed by star. then it'll ask for the number you got off the radio.
