i'm looking for some stuff that isn't fancy looking crap. rooms to go has some really expensive stuff for being made like shit.
i just got a new house and i don't think the futon thing is going to cut it anymore but if i'm going to step up to real stuff i don't want to get some cheap squeaky crap with single sided cushions etc. 11/28/2006 7:28:27 AM |

Ambiente has nice contemporary furniture but you're going to pay for it... http://www.ambienteraleigh.com/
Try hitting up Glenwood Avenue a few miles before Brier Creek, there are a lot of furniture places along there. 11/28/2006 8:08:46 AM |

Scour craigslist. We got some really nice used stuff for pennies on the dollar. It might take awhile, but if you are really concerned about cost, this is about the best way to do it outside of going to all the stores every weekend hoping to find stuff marked down. 11/28/2006 8:12:37 AM |

there's a furniture place called Coopers (I think) that sells lightly used very nice furniture. It's at the end of Glenwood where it deadends into East Morgan st. I'd check there. 11/28/2006 9:26:21 AM |

I'm going more for modern.
I moved to "uptown" charlotte and am re-doing my apt to be more $$$ looking like the surrounding area
so the whole hardwoods stainless steel and earth tones is the plan i'm not really sure what i want for furniture. leather would be nice but.... i don't want my butt to stick to it.
i have a pretty decent budget (5k for living room furniture not including tv stuff etc.) & 5 more for my bedroom 11/28/2006 9:52:52 AM |

rooms to go has an outlet store
craigslist charlotte is amazing
eq3 and bydesign have some really nice stuff, and they're fairly regular about doing sales as well (they're on south blvd right across the street from each other, by southend brewery)
my vote is for eq3 and bydesign 11/28/2006 2:19:37 PM |

What's your budget? And have you been to the stores near/around Carolina Mall? None of them have anything to your liking? 11/28/2006 3:21:52 PM |

big furniture place in Fuquay is going out of business ... they have some pretty nice stuff in there. Mostly traditional-type style. We checked it out when we bought new LR furniture a few years ago, and the prices were good and quality was good, they just didn't have a specific color that I was looking for. 11/28/2006 5:43:16 PM |

If you are looking for modern furniture, eq3 adn by design are the only ones I can think of right off hand. Crate and Barrel just opened a furniture store at southpark. Don't know much about their furniture.
Charlotte is a traditional place. Not really that many modern stores.
You can try the big box stores in all the suburb shopping centers, but you will find yourself walking out after a lap.
The corner of tryon and morehead (across from uptown caberet) there is a store. Sometimes you can find good stuff there.

There's a place called Contempto Concepts in Winston-Salem. This would probably have something on the lines you are looking for. Another suggestion is going to High Point. High Point has tons of furniture places since that is where the furniture market is held every Spring. 11/28/2006 6:54:03 PM |

If you're willing to drive, try the Hickory area
my parents bought 3 sofas (that were show room samples) in one day, totaling around $500
there is also a place that will build a custom couch for about $400 you pick the frame/shape, cushion material, fabric, etc 11/28/2006 6:57:49 PM |

hickory might be a good idea
I've also had a couple of my own designs built by a company on monroe rd. that uses amish people up north. Would blow your budget. Shit, I couldn't afford it. 11/28/2006 7:02:55 PM |
