Is there anyone who can help me install a starter on a 2000 4 Runner 4wd? I'm willing to pay $80 if you know how to do it and can help this weekend. Atlantic Tire quoted me about $330 for part and labor but the part at Autozone is $150 with $60 core charge. I took the right front tire off and can see the starter but I'm not sure how to get it off. I know it's the starter b/c the car wouldnt start til I hit it with a hammer and then it started right up. I've got a garage and all the necessary tools. My name is Mike and I live in Cary, 919-631-0575. 12/2/2006 2:05:30 PM |

I've done this on a 96 2.7 Tacoma within the past year. Go get a Chilton's manual and prepare for at least an hour of work. 12/3/2006 8:56:02 AM |

^What joel said/pictured.
Contact set for Nippondenso starter solenoid.
Seriously, this is a no-brainer job, and if you take it to Atlantic Tire, you are a shithead.
If you must take it to a shop, take it to Happy Jap's in Cary. Rex can and often does swap out the contacts on the Nippondenso starters (and I have done it countless times myself) instead of replacing the damn thing with a new/remanufactured unit. 467-2884.
And if this truck is a V6, then there's no excuse for the job taking more than 30 or 45 minutes. I just did my dad's Toyota T100, and it took me like 20. The four may be a little harder because of the top starter bolt. 12/7/2006 5:21:50 PM |
