Long story short, my drunk ass flopped on the couch last night and landed on my roomates laptop. Seems to still work except the screen is cracked. The bottom right corner of the screen has no picture, and there is what looks like a crack that runs horizontally across the length of the screen.

What are my options to repair this thing??

I was actually looking for maybe someone with personal experience with this sorta thing, what is my cheapest/fastest option to repair this thing. Can i do it myself or do I need somebody who knows what they are doin?? thanks

The option is you pay for it to be sent back to wherever it was bought from and have the screen replaced. If you had the skills to replace the thing without fucking up his laptop worse, you most likely would not be asking those questions in the first place.

Find out if your roommate has a warranty on the thing. If he does, send it in. If not, call around and get some quotes. For now, hook up a keyboard, mouse, and monitor to his laptop so he can use the thing during exams.

^ most warranties dont cover accidents like this, and if you pay them to do it they'll charge you ridiculous prices
your best bet is to go on ebay and search for the part, get it, and install it yourself or have someone else to do this for you, you'll save alot of money

My screen went completely dead on my laptop because the backlight died. Because dell is evil, I had to buy a completely new screen (about 300 bucks). Anyways, replacing it involves a little patience, but isn't all that hard. Just purchase a new screen and get help from the manufacturer as to how you replace it yourself. In my Dell latitude, I had to pop up the front panel where the power button is, release a few screws, and open up the frame around the screen. Then, I unscrewed the screen from the frame and unhooked a little wire connection at the bottom. Then, I reversed the steps with a new screen. It can be done!

i cracked my laptop lcd. i called ibm and they wanted $900 to fix it (screen + labor bs). i looked on some websites and its just a matter of buying a new lcd (the exact one i had was $250 on ebay) and then just taking it apart and putting it in. takes no more than 30 minutes max but you cant be a dumbass.

i recommend the following

1. get out your roomies laptop manual
2. find out all forms of identifying your lcd on the laptop
3. ebay- for replacement less than 250$ easy
4. wait for order
5. goto dell or hp or whatever manufacturers site to download lcd replacement instructions
6. get a screwdriver
7. sit down for 30 minutes and replace screen
8. keep old screen for souvenir
9. share these exact tips to another newbie
10. buy me a cold one for sharing this simple but valuable information

-this happened to me 1 time- i followed the above steps and am typing to you from that very same laptop ftw

Yeah, I changed mine to a screen bought off ebay. Not too hard, but it did require two sets of hands. I took the old screen and used it as a frisbee off the roof, was cool for awhile.
