So, what can I do with it? I read over some of the website, and I get the gist of it, but I am not sure about what all it can and can't do easily.

I assume with Hamachi running on a machine at home and a machine at work, I can then start a vnc session at the machine at home, and remote into it from the office, and control various functions?

What other cool stuff could I do with it?

I think they brand itself as the zero-configuration VPN.

Basically, it lets you access your computer from anywhere as if you were on the same LAN as it. If you have VNC or Remote Desktop along with Hamachi, you connect throuh your Hamachi address instead of your public Internet address. You don't have to worry about configuring your router to open up a port, or even what your public IP address is.

I use it religiously to connect back to my computer at home while I'm at work. Plus, all the data communicated between two machines through Hamachi is encrypted beyond belief, so it is safe.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi,

Quote :
"Hamachi is a centrally-managed zero-configuration virtual private networking (VPN) freeware application capable of establishing direct links between computers that are both NATed without requiring NAT reconfiguration in most cases."

Hamachi is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Basically if two computers are connected in Hamachi, it's like they are on the same workgroup or LAN so any file/printer sharing, itunes sharing, w/e you would normally do over your LAN will work from anywhere.

i wish they would release a corporate version that would allow you to host the server on your own personal server...considering that that is probably a very minor change in their software, i would think the financial benefits would outweigh any fear of releasing their server software

i don't know how much is reasonable, but i know my company would pay a couple hundred bucks for it
