My friend moved to Texas, and now he wants to ship his car there. What's the cheapest way possible to do this? I would imagine shipping via train is cheapest.

Railroad is the WORST way I can think of to ship a car. Especially if it is worth anything.

Quote :
" There are three major causes of paint contamination:

1. Rail dust - produced from the friction of train wheels against railroad tracks. Over 70% of new vehicles are shipped by rail. Rail dust can contaminate a new car's finish before it even reaches the dealership. Anytime a vehicle is parked or travels near a railroad it is subject to rail dust contamination.

2. Brake dust - particles produced from the friction of brake pads rubbing against the rotor. This metal on metal friction disperses tiny particles of bare metal into the air and on the highway where it collects on passing vehicles.

3. Industrial fallout - another word for pollution, industrial fallout is a byproduct of our modern industrial age."

Hence the reason new cars are covered in the white static cling plastic shit until they are delivered to the dealer and checked in.

There are plenty of OTR type 18 wheeler auto transport companies who could easily handle the job. Maybe look on an eBay Motors help page.

just google "auto transport" and start getting quotes. also ask what kind of truck they use, covered trucks with removable fabric sides are the best.

When I was looking at shipping a small SUV to Los Angeles, i got back quotes from 1100 to 1500

I took a job in the park and didn't have to go thru with it.
