I have used Delormes Street Atlas software to travel up and down the east coast (through 8 states) and on my last trip to Colorado. I would have been lost without it. Ther eare so many features that are advanced that I'm sure I have never touched but I could put in my gas mileage and when I wanted to stop for lunc/dinner and get a hotel and it would prompt be 30 minutes before and give a list of restaurants/fast food available and hotel spots.

I had a friend who worked for Microsoft; he used both and swore that MS Streets was better but he worked for MS. EIther way, I have heard great things about both.

it depends on how it's going to be used

INav Iguidance is the best touchscreen gps for in the car

if you are going to be using a laptop as a passenger then something like Delorme Street Atlas 2007 would be good

I used the microsoft one on a trip to niagra falls.

I told my friend SandSanta how great it was.

He pointed out its hard to fuck up directions that end in another country.

Moral:

YMMV (pun pts?)
