I have a 750 that is making shitty noises and cuts off at low rpms. The shop said they "think" it is the valves by the noise it makes but wouldnt tell me without paying for 2.5 hours to diagnose it. The bike is an 02 and I was wondering if anyone knew what a valve job would cost assuming that is the problem or if someone had the time to fix it and how much it might cost.

from the shop a valve job runs 2-3 hours and then they try to hit u with all kinds of other stuff plugs, oil, air filter. i think they said for my 600rr at 16k valve adjustment for just valves it's around 200

i know on the older gsxr's the cam tensioner was a major problem and would cause noises that sound just like valves being out of adjustment when it was starting to go out. i had this problem on my '99 but am not sure at all whether that was still an issue on the '02 750's. check out some of gsxr forums and try to find that out. the part is pretty easy to replace if that is what it is and hell, i could do it for you if you can bring it to me in Asheboro.


edit: just read the rest of ur post, my answer doesnt explain the cutting off and low RPM problems unless the tensioner is really f'ed and screwing the cam timing up. either way, find out if the tensioner problem was a common one on that year/model bike first.

make sure you do a leak down on it not just a compression test
