Samsung doesn't PWN, but for those models (non-XBR Sony), the Samsung will be a little better.

The Sony still has a better black level, but it has a bit more ghosting than the Samsung.

PS, what % of the price is 300? are we talking 600 vs 900? or 2600 vs. 2900? By not listing this, I'm led to believe you've already decided upon Samsung... so go Samsung

a 46" xbr LCD probably costs something around $4k so the 300 is probably somewhere around 7-9%

XBRs are really really nice....however if you can't justify paying the extra for the brand name just go with the Samsung.

Doubt anyone would notice a difference

ok someone see if they can find this but i think xbr 2 & 3 can use UNCOMPRESSED 1080p signals where the samsung cannot.

if anyone with a little more knowledge on the subject could interject it would be appreciated.

and its 3300 vs 3600
