Share some of your funny stories here!
Story 1: Friend of mine was driving his RX-7 and at a light he jokingly revved his engine against one of the newer KIA Vans. At the light he tore off and the mini van dusted us. I mean not even close. Now it was a 1st gen rx-7 but still... I laughed my ass off for an hour.
Story 2: A while back I was driving a Geo Storm with... issues. One of those issues was having a cracked exhaust manafold. I sounded beef! So at a light I see this beef Camero SS. Modified, nice black look, air ram etc. I rev my engine which makes this roar, the guy looks over probably thinking I had some kind of supped up engine under my hood and revved back. I rev my 3 cylinder (note 1 piston wasn't firing... thus why it's 3 and not 4), light turns green, we take off and my god I'm a head.
*insert patented Raige sound effect* and I look behind me and see smoke pouring in the intersection.
The guy comes into Radio Schwack later and I recognize him and start talking to him and he starts laughing when he learns he was up against a broken manifold and not some monster in disguise. Then he tells me he blew his engine. I can't remember if it was a blown seal or what but he car wasn't going anywhere. But he did buy 2 packs of batteries!
What ya guys got? 12/7/2006 8:22:34 AM |

I was driving one day in my old turbocharged Miata (probably a mid to high 12-second car). i had the top up, so the roll bar wasn't too visible...it looked like a bone stock 1990 Miata with lowered suspension (it also had 225/35R16 rubber or something like that, but that wouldn't be too noticeable unless you were looking at the car from the rear).
this riceboy in a Scion xB is beside me in the next lane. He has aftermarket wheels, low profile tires, and a kazoo muffler...you know, the stuff that makes John Force tuck tail and run. He started revving his engine at me (we're going maybe 30 mph) and takes off. I clicked it down into 2nd and went by him just as my rear tires stopped spinning and left him completely for dead.
I just have always thought that was funny because it's probably one of the worst beatdowns in the history of street racing, and the guy probably thought he was going to win against a lowly 1G Miata. 12/7/2006 9:03:42 AM |

guy i work with was telling me how he used to have some GM car that a drunk friend wheeled through a cemetary and separated the exhaust on a tombstone, making the thing loud as hell
well driving the car to a ship for transport (he was military), all the staff there to load it were going nuts asking him what he'd done to it and what numbers it pushes, etc, and he all played it off.
then the crane picks the car up and everyone clearly sees the exhaust split and dangling 12/7/2006 10:32:55 AM |

a stock miata is already fine for autox or hpde. if you do an hpde though, i'd recommend changing your brake fluid and getting some better brake pads. 12/7/2006 11:03:51 AM |

Not too bad really, you're probably looking at around $1,000 bucks after purchase to get it track ready for HPDE. 12/7/2006 11:23:57 AM |

I was behind this guy in a modified Supra the other night and we were both getting onto 440 from Western Blvd when I guess he decided to take off. As soon as he made the turn, he got hella sideways, tried to save it, over corrected, got sideways in the other direction, over corrected again, got sideways again and I think one more time before he was back in control...he then drove 65 all the way to the Glenwood exit...I laughed the whole time. He had obviously put some work into the car, one would assume he could handle it better than that. 12/7/2006 11:55:32 AM |

yeah, gotta have a roll bar.
miatas are a blast stock, but they're slow.
my car had an FMII turbo kit blowing 17 psi (http://www.flyinmiata.com), built engine, ACT clutch, limited slip rear diff from a 1.8 car, 3" downpipe and exhaust, wilwood brakes, tokico springs, kyb agx shocks, and some other stuff i can't remember.
if you put an FMII kit on a stock engine, replace the clutch, and upgrade the exhaust, it will be pretty damned fast. It would prob cost $7k or so unless you snagged some good deals. a set of springs and shocks would prob run you another grand or so, and then it will handle like a coked up go-kart. my S2000 felt big, soft, and sluggish compared to my Miata (although more composed and easier to drive fast). 12/7/2006 11:55:44 AM |

If you're really pushing your car you run the risk of losing it. Everyone makes mistakes.

Golovko is the source of one of the funniest stories I have recently:
A while back he and a couple other guys (H8R, baonest, etc) came up to see the Dragon (US129) and I met them there. It was about 8:00 at night and we'd just been through the Dragon, and pulled off to talk about what was next. Golovko goes "By the way, my gas light is on, where's the nearest gas station?" Keep in mind, we're in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. The nearest gas stations are about 11 miles away, and that's through twisty mountainous roads.
So we head towards what we think is the nearest gas station. We go <35mph the whole damn way. Not to mention at the top of the mountain range we had to cross we ran into the thickest fog I have seen in my entire life. Along the way we ran across several crazy rednecks who slowed down to less than 10mph and started leaning outside their cars and screaming at me. We don't really know why, although we suspect they were annoyed at my HIDs. We made it to a gas station without incident, but it made me laugh. You guys are so used to having a gas station right around every corner in Raleigh! I had the same damn problem when I started heading to the Dragon a lot.
Also funny was H8R complaining about having to take a shit really bad and asking where the nearest toilet was. At the time, we were at ~5,500 feet of elevation in the middle of the Cheroholah Skyway, lol. The nearest toilet was like 20 miles away

i was riding home on my 600rr a week ago and pulled up next to a civic 02 or so with a fart pipe and carbon fiber hood. we were going 40 in a 45. i just cruise beside him seeing if he will do anything not not egging him on.
well he drops a gear or 2 and gets on it. so i give it a lil gas and stay right beside him. after that i got bored and inched slowly ahead just to piss him off
he probably told his friends about how he almost bet a crotch rocket or something 12/7/2006 5:09:40 PM |

yeah, i had an M-coupe try to run me on my GSX-R 750. I crushed him, then let off and slowed back down to the speed I'd been going...he stayed in the gas, though, and tried to do a ricer flyby so he could get ahead of me. I saw him in the mirror, though, and crushed him again. I just stayed in the gas for a while that time, I'd left him completely out of sight.
^i've done that several times. Did it once to a dude who cut in front of me and took my parking spot. Did it another time to an entire fleet of vehicles belonging to an organization that totally deserved it.
another time, back when I had my Jeep, one of my friends used to think it was so funny to remove and hide my stereo faceplate. I told him once not to do it again...the second time, I chewed his ass and told him that if he did it again, I would make him regret it. The third time he did it, I took his wheels and tires and left his truck on cinderblocks for a day.

the best is to get one of those precision flat head screwdrivers, and unscrew the actual valve from the stem. and put the cap on til it leaks slowly, or put in on all the way and when they take it off, bam, its flat in couple seconds. 12/7/2006 6:40:58 PM |

it's funny you say that, i think the same thing every time it happens to me. i mean get a grip, power/weight ratio is just huge. had a truck pull up next to me the other day. his damn tires were at tall as my bike and i could almost hear his exhaust over mine. i think i had no choice but to leave him in smoke or he'd run over me12/7/2006 6:57:13 PM |

back in HS i was up on mainstreet at a car meet. I had just wired up the SMT-6 and had the laptop in the seat with all its gadgetry going which all the kiddies loved. I had the hood popped so i could check on the turbo. I then went to the back of the car to talk to a friend.
about 2 minutes later this guy walks around and is like "uhh hey, somethings wrong with your engine." I walk around to the front and theres this 20 foot GEYSER of coolant shooting up from the throttle body. The gasket where coolant flows to it let go and was sending coolant in to the air. Luckly i had a spare stainless steel brake line in the car so i rerouted the coolant lines into to the brake hose and come out of it looking like a motorboating son of a bitch.
embarassing nontheless.
