Hey,

I'm needing a 242 transfer case and was wondering if anyone knew where any local junkyards are that might have one or if you might know someone with one. The 242 came in the jeep cherokee, tj, and grand cherokee (and maybe a couple others). It's the select-trac model with 2H-Part Time 4WD and Full-Time 4WD. It'll be used in a 249-242 transfer case swap so the input and output shaft lengths won't really matter since i can mix-match parts between the 242 and 249. Thanks

Jon

as far as i know the 242 didn't come in the tj's. also, check nine's junkyard as they have a decent amount of grand cherokees and cherokees.

If you dont mind pulling it, and looking around the yard I'd suggest checking LKQ on HWY70 in Garner/Clayton. They wont tell you what they have in the yard, but they are WAY cheaper than most anywhere else.

yea nine's is a u pull it style yard. search there was a thread a couple of days ago that had their info in it. also, if you ever get down near charlotte there is a pull a part where you can get parts for basically nothing. i'll be in charlotte over xmas break so if you still need it i could probably make a run out there for you.

wouldnt a 231 be the same or very similar dimension wise and not fulltime. fairly sure my zj is a 231 as well as most xj/yj/tj's

a 231 is a lot alike, you'd just need the linkages and possibly electrical connectors?

as far as i know, the NP242 is only gonna be readily found in ZJ's or XJ's

so you can limit your options in the junkyard
