https://www.yahoo.com/travel/no-narsisstics-music-festivals-ban-fans-selfie-115059948947.html

So apparently music festivals are banning selfie poles, and seemingly only to stop people from taking selfies and not some other "safety" reason or something like that.

I find them as ridiculous as the next person (I think), but is this really necessary? Seems like it goes against the very idea of a music festival to ban something people enjoy doing that doesn't really bother anyone. I could probably think of at least 5 things I wish a music festival would ban before these.

The only other argument I can think of is that the poles get in the way of people's view, but there are 10 times as many people walking around with "location poles" with giant posters and shit on top that are 15 times the size of an iphone

kids and their selfies today, i'm okay with it

somewhat old news, but primus and dinosaur jr. playing in the street at Lincoln Theatre. I've seen Dinosaur Jr./J Mascis/the Fog multiple times, and I'm looking forward to that, but I'm really looking forward to Primus.

btw, a while back somebody mentioned some recent collaborative project that included J Mascis. Was it Heavy Blanket?

I think the big thing about Selfie Poles is they aren't just sticking straight up. you are sticking that thing out 6-10' in front of you over 2-3 rows worth of people to get the right angle. now multiply that times several hundred and i could see an annoyance begin to build.

the location poles have never bothered me, but i always seem to be a lot closer to the stage than any of them.

I can see that argument I guess, but to nitpick it here are two issues with it:

1) I really don't see that many of these things at music festivals. Certainly not enough to bother me
2) Coachella seems to be banning them while specifically referencing narcissism as something else they're banning. I assume that's at least half a joke, but still half truth, and that just seems like an unnecessary jab to people who like to take pictures of themselves in front of things they like (again, I am not in the custom of taking selfies ever really, but I don't feel a need to stop the people that are)

i really wish this was 6-20. Would have been perfect timing since that's the day I leave Hilton Head. I suppose I could make it work..

those Diarrhea Planet dudes know how to put on one hell of a show

was also really, really impressed with Left & Right. I'd never heard them before the show and they hit a few nostalgia buttons

^^Indeed they do. Their set felt a bit short, though. If they had played 3-4 more songs that would have easily been the best show of theirs I've seen.

Lee Bains played to about 30 people at Slims last night. I don't think I've ever seen him finish a show with all 6 strings he started with.

The energy is the same, but the music is different enough in a way I really dislike. Four dudes shredding nonstop is my idea of a nightmare.

Saw Toro y Moi tonight. Wasn't expecting a full band [based on listing to Anything in Return lots]...very cool.

^ Did you get general admission for Dawes?

^^ Just caught Parker Millsap a few weeks ago for the 3rd time. Fun show and really nice guy if you can catch him after the show.

That's awesome J Roddy has such a high billing at Hangout Fest. With another solid album I think they're gonna be huge. Make sure to check them and Frank Turner out

I've got Faith No More tonight, then Jamie N Commons, Benjamin Booker, Governor's Ball, J Roddy Walson, Spoon, Gary Clarke Jr, John Fogerty, and Mason Jennings all this month and next. Not sure about Fogerty though...he's playing Radio City and I really love the guy, but tix are $Texas
