I like this guy...

Quote :
"Wolfpack fix will be quick and easy for O’Brien

This one’s a no-brainer.

Tom O’Brien has more to work with. Sure, both teams finished at 3-9 overall at 2-6 in the ACC. And, yes, N.C. State lost to UNC, but UNC won that for one reason and one reason only — win won for the Gipper.

The players felt obligated to win one for lame-duck coach John Bunting. N.C. State beat two nationally ranked teams in Boston College and Florida State. The potential is there. They just need more consistency, and O’Brien can bring that. The Eagles went 75-45 in his 10 years, and, after going 4-7 in each of his first two seasons, Boston College is headed to its eighth consecutive bowl game.

Hiring O’Brien sets up a positive chain of events for the Wolfpack. When the former Boston College coach guided the Eagles to a 9-3 overall record and 5-3 ACC mark, they were passed over for bigger bowls. Maryland and Clemson got to go to the Champs Sports Bowl and Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl, respectively, even though Boston College beat them in head-to-head action in 2005 and 2006.

The reason for the snub? Fan support.

That won’t be a problem at N.C. State. The Wolfpack faithful averaged 56,540 fans per game; Carter-Finely seats 57,082. The Eagles’ had the third-lowest home attendance in the ACC at 38,843.

Here’s where the ball gets rolling. More fans entice the money-hungry bowl executives that hand out invitations. The better the bowl, the better the exposure. And, the better the exposure, the more likely N.C. State will recruit top-notch talent.

A former military man, O’Brien won’t have a problem boosting the esteem of his players — and their grade point average. Boston College regularly boasted one of the top graduation rates in the country, even posting a 100 percent mark in 2004.

Sure, Butch Davis resurrected a Miami program. It’s likely that he’ll do the same at UNC. He just won’t do it as quickly as O’Brien.

I'm assuming you mean Randy Jones, but it would be nice to list who wrote the article. He's cool. I tried to apply for the sports job there, didn't get it, but he gave me good advice about doing freelance.

Good job posting the link. I didn't get to meet Mandy Schulz on my interview, but she did a great job with the article. Anyway, WAR NBSJ. I'm out.
