Why can't my XBox 360 see my PC?

I am using a Linksys Router. Here is a screenshot of the port forwarding settings:



My computer is occupying 192.168.1.101, the Xbox 360 is occupying 192.168.1.102

PINGING MY XBOX 360 FROM MY PC DOES THE FOLLOWING:

Request Timed Out.
Request Timed Out.
Request Timed Out.

Fixes I have tried:
-Disabling IEEE802.1 authentication
-Deleting c:\Documents and settings\All Users\DRM\ folder




Oh, and I can't install Windows Media Connect or WMP11 because.. well... they require you to verify your copy of Windows and well... that wouldn't work....

Do you mean Windows Media Connect? The Zune Software doesn't see my Xbox 360 in the devices section, and I can't ping the Xbox 360 even though it is on the network and able to connect to Xbox live, which leads me to believe this is a firewall problem not a software problem....

Running Windows Media Connect installer and during the "Authorizing Xbox 360" part of the setup, it can't find my Xbox 360... argh.

WMC is designed to work in conjunction with genuine advantage or whatever the fuck it's called.


It's pretty apparent to me that you've already ID'd what your problem is, anyway.

No valid Windows, no WMC, no XBOX 360 connection.


Easy answer is to stop being a Jew and buy an XP license.




also deleting your DRM folder may not have been the best idea if you didn't back up the licenses you had

Mine working isn't exactly proof that you can get it working now. I installed Media Connect and setup all this shit before the genuine bullshit was added to it.

But I did give you the install file that I should, so I don't see why it's not working.

I have been struggling with this as well, and I DO have a legit copy of Windows

I have WMP 11 installed and it still can't find it

I was hoping for some ideas as well

Are you using wireless for either your PC or your Xbox? If so, try running wired connections to each to eliminate that as a problem. I've had trouble reaching my Xbox on 3 different wireless setups and all three times I just ended up running ethernet to fix the problem.

Gronke, the software I sent you does not work with WMP11, so if you have that roll back to 10.

I just had to reinstall media connect because WMP11 uninstalled it (I'm not sure how WMP11 got on my computer in the first place) and it's working again just fine.

I couldn't get my xbox 360 to connect to my PC when there was another computer on the network that was running windows vista. however, once it was connected it worked fine while the vista machine was running. you might try connecting just the xbox and your PC to a hub or switch, setting it up, then returning your network to normal.

Have you tried connecting your xbox directly to your PC. Some routers are incompatible (I don't know what in god's name a router would do to inhibit the function of a device on the internal network), but I was having trouble at my parent's house. After connecting my PC and XBox to a switch and then running a line from the switch to the router (thereby isolating communication between PC and XBox from all other network activity) all my problems went away. I've got 2 bum switches with 4 working ports out of 5 (you only need 3 working ports to try this) if you want to try it.

Connect your computer directly to your xbox and see if it will connect. If it does, then this solution will work.

1. According to MSFT you can connect the xbox to your pc using either a cross-over or a patch cable (which is not uncommon in newer devices)

2. A switch isolates network traffic between each connected device by hardware address, only packets intended for a particular device are sent to that device. Therefore, connecting the xbox and pc to a switch as I described creates a 100 mbps link between your computer and xbox. The only downside is that now the xbox and your pc share a 100 mbps link to the rest of the network. The traffic generated by the xbox is never going to be anywhere near 100mbps, so it won't affect live performance or anything like that.

Your xbox will not connect wirelessly to a switch and create the same network topology unless it is a wireless bridge (not an access point or wireless router -- wireless bridges are pretty uncommon today since wireless has been integrated into routers and other devices -- switch is the name for a multiport bridge). If you are using a wireless connection, wireless noise from other RF devices may be causing intermittent interference on your network.

The only problem I can see a router causing is blocking broadcast messages. So trying another solution involving another routing device may or may not work. MSFT has a list of compatible routers somewhere, which I'm willing to bet yours isn't on.

"works with xbox live" does not necessarily mean it works with windows media connect. I've never had a problem with my xbox connecting to the internet even when it has problems connecting to my PC.

Yeah, I have that and have it set up and everything...can see the xbox from my pc, but my xbox refuses to connect to the pc. I've opened all the ports I need to, disabled any type of firewall that would block it, and still not getting any results.
