Say, a generation late? Maybe even a century?
Like the life you want to lead doesn't fit in today's America, but theoretically would've been fine in another time and place?
I've just been feeling that way a lot lately... 12/24/2006 11:22:02 PM |

I think I'm about a generation late. I'm a bit....traditional?
As much as I love girls, I hate how girls slut around now a days. Girls expose soo much of their body that a lot of the body parts that were considering to turn you on before no longer do. I remember how legs used to turn me on...but now I see soo many damn girls walking around with short skirts exposing everything that it no longer turns me on. Imagine if all girls (not fat ones) start walking around naked...soon, we would no longer be attracted to their bodies as much.
One of the many reasons why I love my g/f so much is because even though she's got an amazing body she never dresses slutty. She's got great breasts that most girls will kill for...but she doesn't expose her cleavage. Even 2 years later, I get turned on even if she just lifts up her shirt an inch. If she dressed slutty all the time like most American girls, I could have not said the same. 12/26/2006 4:37:00 PM |

people have such a romanticized view of the past. The standard of living is much higher today than it was decades ago. Of course, that doesn't mean people are happier. But I would also argue that the world generally had a hell of a lot less freedom, for better or for worse. People had less education too.
The world was also much more dangerous place (I'm not speaking of just the US now). I don't want to get into a huge political debate here, but 100 years ago things were so much more dangerous. The average male had a much higher chance of getting drafted. People lost family members to disease and war much more than they do today. You had farmers in even worse debt than they are today.
It was far more normal and acceptable for one country to invade another (Russo-Japanese War, Spanish American, etc), although I'm not saying that this doesn't happen all the time today. Most of the european powers had huge standing armies. People lived in a huge rat race to become "modern" back then too. You had philosophies like social darwinism much more prevalent--nobody gave a shit about the little guy, even moreso than today. World War I was the culmination of a fierce and bloody competition among countries that I would argue is even worse than the terrorism we have today. You also had far more economic instability--the US GDP had far more violent swings in the first half of the twentieth century.
50 years ago you still have a lack of civil rights, less money, less education, and of course the more likely fear of nuclear weapons destroying the war (not that it couldn't happen today).
The world is definately still a fucked up place, but the AVERAGE PERSON had less money, less freedom, and a harder life those many decades ago, especially if you are female or a minority. That doesn't mean that all the freedom and money we have today is automatically a good thing though. Most of the bullshit problems we have today were even worse in previous generations.

Everytime I would ask her to marry she would always say no. At her reply she would notice the relief written all over my face. She was wise enough to simply let me go. Said I should have lived, 150 years ago. Talking with a friend of mine today from Allentown. Three feet of snow had given him a case of cabin fever. He said year to year things here are great. We concluded we were born, 150 years too late. And our forefathers stole a life so wonderful and new, from a people who had one old, sacred and true. They have made life so easy we no more appreciate, I'm living in their lies, 150 years too late. I live way back in the mountains in the land of Cherokee. Four distinct seasons to live with and rolling mystery. A sense of home a most familair grace, I can dream even if, it's 150 years too late.

Well there is a total lack of motivating causes to join at the moment and the western world is relatively stable. Granted, the middle east is on the verge of totally imploding and there's a guaranteed stand off between the US and China and/or Russia in the future.
I think you should enjoy the calm before the fireworks. 12/27/2006 10:37:44 AM |

I've longed for simpler times or less crowded places at times. In reality I'm probably just romantacizing, not accurately accessing the situations of poverty, medicine, disease, culture, war, etc. I've also felt I've been born too early before, in anticipation of future technology. In any case, you've gotta play with the hand you're dealt. 12/27/2006 11:21:44 AM |

One possible solution for overcrowding: round up all the hopelessly ignorant and stupid people, and shoot 'em. It'd solve our overpopulation issue, and would collectively raise the intelligence levels. 12/27/2006 3:22:06 PM |
