Is anyone planning to study abroad in Japan? Or if anyone has already been, what school did you go to. Tell me anything about your experiences. I'm planning on going Spring of 2008 and I don't really know what I'm doing. 12/27/2006 6:00:36 PM |

The study abroad office can hook you up with students who have studied there in the past, I almost went to Wales this past semester but decided I wanted some CHE here at NCSU before going overseas. 12/27/2006 10:56:08 PM |

If you go to Nagoya, you can chill with my roommate when he moves back.
I think he'll be out by then, tho. He's a grad student. 12/27/2006 10:57:12 PM |

Fo sho, I plan to go to the Study Abroad office as soon as school opens back up. I've been kinda slack about it since I don't plan to go for another year. But I'd still like to meet some people that are interested in going =) 12/28/2006 4:47:41 PM |

you are fucking retarded. you can't spell. you were there for 3 weeks and this guy was there almost 2 years, yet you have the cheek to tell him he didn't have the same experience? they don't exactly spend 19 months on the boat or in the base. they can get out you know?1/4/2007 3:22:20 AM |

Remember that time Okinawa was a completely different country from Japan.
to wit, dumbass:
Quote : | "Having historically been a separate nation, Okinawan language and culture differ considerably from that of mainland Japan. There remain numerous Ryukyuan languages which are more-or-less incomprehensible to Japanese speakers. These languages are in decline as the Japanese government has encouraged the use of Standard Japanese. Most linguists, at least those outside Japan, consider Ryukyuan languages as different languages from Japanese, while they are generally perceived as "dialects" by mainland Japanese and Okinawans themselves. Standard Japanese is almost always used in formal situations. In informal situations, de facto everyday language among Okinawans under their 60s are Okinawa-accented mainland Japanese called ????????? (Uchinayamatoguchi "Okinawan Japanese"), which is often misunderstood as Okinawan language proper, ?????? (Uchinaguchi "Okinawan language"). Uchinaguchi still is used in traditional cultural activities, such as folk music, or folk dance. There is a radio news program in the language as well. [1]
Okinawa also has its own religious beliefs.
Due to its location and history, Okinawa is also more ethnically diverse than other parts of Japan. Okinawans are a unique blend of Malay from Formosa and the Philippines, Chinese from China, Koreans from Korea, and Japanese (Yamato) from Japan. Perhaps Okinawa's most famous cultural export is karate, probably a product of the close ties with, and influence of China on Okinawan culture. Karate is thought to be a synthesis of Chinese kung fu with traditional Okinawan martial arts. A ban on weapons in Okinawa for two long periods after the invasion and forced annexation by Japan during the Meiji Restoration period also very likely contributed to its development." |
