so this morning my speedometer and odometer stop working
about 30 secs later the engine light comes on
I check the codes, got a 502, possible speed sensor
got out the handy dandy voltmeter, and checked all leads
I am showing power everywhere, but I am thinking the sensor may have died.....any other possible causes?

testing the actual sensor is complicated and i'm not gonna get into it, but its not uncommon for them to go out on that car. its right behind the starter on top of the transmission,
pull off the three prong gray plug from it, and look at the end of it with the clip side facing up.
between the left pin and negative battery post, you should have no resistance
between the left pin and the center you should have 12v with the ignition on, if not check fuse 4
between the left and right pins you chould have 5v, if not check fuse 10, or it could be the cruise control unit
if you have voltage at both and a good ground, then replace the sensor

granted you still need a standard 10mm 1/4" drive socket, universal joint, and like a 18" extension 1/1/2007 11:08:01 PM |
