So I just played the first one on PS2 this past weekend, beat it (after playing it a few days with my brother), and I am definitely ready for the next installment.

It's set to come out in February for the PS2 & 3.

This was one of the best games I have ever played, and from everything I have read, GoW II is going to have much more indepth puzzles, bosses, and a much longer game than the first installment.

wow, you just made my day, I didnt even know they were making a second one

it doesnt look very different from the first one, and a lot of the moves appear to be the same

but the first installment was so badass that there wasnt much room for improvement

^well they are purposely releasing this HUGE title on PS2 only in order to continue selling that system (and I can attest to the overwhelming success of that decision as most retailers are selling out of PS2s lately)

They know that very very few people have PS3s, or will have them by March, so why not make the most of the release and sell it on a system that millions upon millions have or are willing to shell out 129.99 for to play this and a few other titles.

developers don't want to work on a muti-year full fledged blockbuster title to be released to an audience of only a few thousand. A game like God of War (developed in-house) would be a perfect candidate to get people to start picking up this system. No independent developer is going to want to make a game for PS3 until the customer base is there.

halo got old so quick... i stopped playing it before i even got my 360

it is just to easy, and extremely repetitive in nature, and if you think that this was the best 360 game until gow all i can say is wow

btw, gow online is a joke, but somehow people like it - do yourself a favor a get cod3. the learning curve on the cod3 maps are HIGH, and that is why a lot of people don't like, but trust me, and read the fourms, gow and h2 are jokes compared to cod3 online.

According to IGN's review (GoW 2 got a 9.7), this game will run at 720p on the PS3.

Sorry. Gonna call bullshit on that one (a bit late, I know). What you are trying to tell us is that Sony PURPOSELY released it only on the PS2 to keep that system alive? Are you kidding me? Great marketing strategy. Lets release a killer title on the lesser system to take attention away from the system's successor?

Companies try to do the opposite. You release the killer title on the next gen system to try to push units, which will inevitably push more software sales in the future. Take a look at Zelda: Twilight Princess. They started on the GC version first, but made sure that the Wii version got shipped first. You gotta boost system sales, especially during launch periods.

My guess is that this is a PS2 title because either it would have slowed down production by large amounts to make it a PS3 title, or they figured that all the PS3 owners would be happy enough to play a fantastic PS2 title on their system (more likely). I have a feeling that if Sony knew how the PS3 launch would turn out, they would have stuck this one straight to PS3 from the get-go.

Just my 2 cents.

If I hadn't heard it DIRECTLY from the mouths of Sony's marketing reps then I wouldn't feel as confident in saying it. It makes sense to me, but also it was being developed for the PS2 all along anyway.

This game was developed for PS2 so that they could port the near-flawless engine from the 1st, slap on some minor tweaks, and call it a brand new game.
