Lately, my WMP has been playing the first couple seconds of a video just fine, sound included, then the screen within the player goes black, and no sound.

It continues 'playing' through the rest of the video, but with no picture/sound.

Any ideas?

out of the blue.

nope, not porn.

Everything is fine, if the windows media player is 'inset' within the mozilla/IE frame, but if WMP opens up separately, then this problem happens.

1) If you haven't already, upgrade to WMP 11.
2) Download codec packs, and appropriate file header fixes.
3) Install VLC Media Player.

codec packs create more problems than they solve. If you have a media file you cant play, figure out what codec you need (google or gspot codec info) and then get that individual codec.
