I've used the search engine, and while I have found a lot on "easy" I didn't find many threads on all around great classes. Sometimes you miss some good classes that you otherwise wouldn't find without looking everywhere. And other times it's just though word of mouth. So if anyone could suggest great "must attend before graduating" classes or "best teacher at NCSU" ideas that'd be great. 1/4/2007 9:15:26 AM |

Dr Packman - for any greek or latin thing, but shes great with mythology (grk 310) specifically Dr Jesseph - for any philosophy, but for ancient philosophy (phi 300) he's best since its his focused area of study Dr Hunt - for any english class, I had him for a shakespeare class (eng 209) and really enjoyed it.
Those were my top 3 favorite classes & professors at state.
Also I'd recommend Dr Parker for any history class, he really knows what he's doing. And Dr Sack propensity to be loud and unlimited hate for the library staff can make his history classes interesting. DeTreville is also a good history professor I hear. And Dr Kellner for any english class wouldn't be too bad either. Hinton & Bykova are also good philosophy professors. 1/14/2007 12:03:42 PM |

My top English professors have been Wall, Hester and Bateman. If you're into Shakespeare, Hester is the one to take a class with. For English Renaissance literature Wall is awesome (if EEBO doesn't make you want to kill yourself). If you're interested in freelance writing at all, Wilton Barnhardt is the man to take a class with. He's worked in the industry for a long time and has great insights about what it's like.
I'm not sure if Allaire (psychology) and Goodman (philosophy) are still teaching here, but both of them were awesome lecturers and made three hour classes more than bearable - entertaining, even. 1/15/2007 1:32:25 PM |

EC 302 (Intermediate Macroecon) with McElroy - He makes the material somehow pretty engaging and extremely relevant to the real world. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to any (motivated) non-majors interested in "the bigger picture". Most enlightening class I've had at State, and ultimately the sole class that moved me to switch majors.
http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/reg_records/crs_cat/EC.html#EC302
If you need 202 (Intro Macro) as a degree req (eg. BUS majors), consider taking 302 instead. It might require a little more work, but you'll come out with so much more in the end. 1/25/2007 6:21:48 PM |

the class is ENG 288, Fiction Writing, and I agree it is one of the best classes I've ever taken. You have to write 3 short stories of 2,000 words or more. The first month or so of class is Bateman talking about fiction, the 2nd half is reading and discussing the stories that students wrote.
ENG 288 may well be the only class at NCSU where I had perfect attendance. Plus Bateman's grade distribution is like half A's half B's.
Also I recommend PEH 213, Human Sexuality, with Ousley. You'll definitely learn some stuff in that class. 1/28/2007 10:08:57 AM |

i recommend Lily Philips - she's a relatively new professor to the university - but she's easily one of my favorites in the Eng dept.
Steven Greene is easily the best professor i've had in college - just an all-around awesome dude.
Also, I really enjoyed my class with Lisk - for intro to creative writing - the guy is kind of ancient, but it adds to his appeal. He's a very honest and funny guy. 1/28/2007 4:52:18 PM |

Ha, I helped her with a public policy survey a few years back. Yes, she used to be a guy. I had no idea she was a republican, ha.
She's a huge Arsenal fan tho. Fuck that noise.
Best classes:
World Population and Food (MDS 323) with Patterson Any history class with Caddell (US) or Charlie Carlton (UK) (Carlton's semi-retired, tho) PS 201 with Cobb (but if you are of the belief that CNN is brainwashing us into being LIEberals, you won't like it. He'll blow your argument up pretty quickly)
