How do you manually input a mac address into a wireless usb adapter on a desktop computer. I have a NETOPIA adapter and it's finding the signal from my linksys 2.4ghz wireless router, but it says signal is low and poor. What do i do to get the broadcast signal better or to get onto the internet at the remote sight???

wow, that was hard to read.

1) you don't input a MAC address to a usb adapter. if anything, you input that in the linksys router to restrict wireless network access to only the computers you specify via mac addresss.

2) mess around with the adapter so its higher etc...how far away are you from the router? does the internet work? are you connected to the right network?

yeah, this isn't a MAC address issue, it's a signaling problem.

Either you're getting interference/signal attenuation, or there's a problem with the router or NIC.

or maybe the air is really thick, slowing down the bits. When the bits get tired, they die. try turning on a fan to stir up the thick air.

anyways, the wireless router is upstairs and the wired desktop computer is downstairs. Say maybe a total of 100 ft. apt. but with them being over top of each other probably a lil closer. I just need to know how to increase the signal strength.

Im on the right network bc there was none before we set this one up.

just as a test, try moving the router to the same room as your PC and see if the signal strength improves (don't worry if you can't plug it in to your cable connection, we just want to test the signal strength between your PC's NIC and the router's wireless radio).
