It starts with recruiting a true point guard.

And I guarantee it won't take Sid 10 years to do it.

How did it take Herb ten years to recruit a true PG when the first recruit he signed was Justin Gainey, our best PG in recent memory????

I hate some of you so much.

McCauley doesn't suck. He may be the only one that doesn't play with his head up his ass the entire game. The man works hard in the post on Off. and has his hands tied due to depth on D.

Costner's the best player in the country with 1:30 left down 20.

^ haha

In case some of the younger fans dont get that joke...

Gainey was a local unrecruited scrub that we thrust into the PG spot because we had no alternative. He was basically in the same situation Daniel Evans was in.

Gainey played his heart out and actually had an okay career considering how limited his talent was.

Haha Herb went 17-14 his first year here with that crowd and made the ACC final.

I still miss Danny Strong and those boys.

i think it's quite obvious that all of Herb's recruits suck balls and State will not be good again until we can purge all of his mistakes out of the program and start from scratch

ASU is last among 10 teams (where 5 out of the 10 are in the top-25), while State is last among 12 teams. identical conference winning percentages

i've already acknowledged that ASU will be very lucky to win 10 games this season. it's tough when your leading scorer uses the new transfer rule to go play for his dad during his last year of eligibility, your second leading scorer fails drug tests and is kicked off the team and there are 3 true freshmen and a true sophomore starting and playing 30+ minutes every game and your other starter, a 5th year senior, only had 16 total points during 4 conference games

....looks like there's always next year for both teams

This was a pretty obvious troll post.

We are very young, very shallow, and our senior leadership just isnt very good at the game, or isnt even on the court.

Lowe has it going in the right direction, growing pains just suck.

I personally like how we went from a fan base who DEMANDED the top results to a fanbase that collectively loses their shit when ONE thing about a game is criticized. It's like there is some sort of defense mechanism in place for some reason that I can't quite figure out. Yes, I'm generalizing.

God knows I think Coach Lowe is the man for the job but I don't see any reason why people would think if I criticize him or an aspect of a game it means I'm pining for the old coach or want Lowe gone.

----

Personally, I will say I was on the low end for expectations. I said preseason a .500 record would be quite an achievement and expected 4-5 ACC wins. Most people on here disagreed and said we would be a clear NIT team and some even said a borderline NCAA team. I chose to go the path of not being able to be let down by casting unrealistic expectations on the team.

I will say I would be disappointed if we ended up with less than 3 ACC wins because I feel the talent level is there to at least get to 4 or 5. I'm pretty confident Coach Lowe can get us to that point, but a lot of that will hinge on the Wake Forest game this weekend..

I love how people like Prawn Star and FitchNCSU act like Arizona State has ever been worth a shit in basketball and use that in hating on Herb and showing that he sucks. They are the worst basketball school among the BCS conferences.

^VT beat Duke and they are very guard oriented like Clemson, I don't think we have much chance.

Honestly, I wish Herb was fired after the 2001 season personally. Then we wouldn't have the revisionist history bullshit, we wouldn't have people so obsessed with him that every thing that happens this year is blamed on him, we wouldn't have to deal with the media and our fans reaction to it everytime those two words are brought up, and we wouldn't have to hear fans 'celebrating' what will likely be our worst season in 11 years.

And to clarify my last point. I don't mind the rebuilding year. Programs need those every so often unless you're Duke. I just am not going to sit here and say it's more enjoyable to get our asses kicked than it is to make the NCAA Tourney every year, because it isn't. When/if we surpass the Herb era under Lowe, I'll look back at this year and say it was necessary. However, as we're going through it, it blows..

[Edited on January 10, 2007 at 1:47 PM. Reason : though packpride is undoubtedly more hilarious to read these days b/c of herb]

Duke's point guard is Greg Paulus, who is terrible.

And they are not Clemson.

We play them twice, and we should be able beat them at least once.

and I'm getting flammed like hell for calling Gavin Grant out for quitting on that play last night over on PP. Its one thing to get your ass beaten in, which is understandable this season, but dont piss and moan about it while you're on the court Gavin plz.

I'm not hating on Herb. I'm hating on people who think NC State cannot do better than Herb. I like Herb and still do. But I'm greatly annoyed by people who seem to have more loyalty to Herb than to NC State and our new coach.

That's all.

I know that b/c Brandon Costner would be shooting 3 pointers the entire game instead of just the last 90 seconds when it doesn't matter

Ferguson would have more confidence in his shot

Fells would get benched for being lazy on defense

and Gavin Grant would be so annoyed at Herb that he wouldn't take the stupid shots that he sometimes does

I support the team

there's nothing wrong with stating the very obvious fact that we would have at least 1 ACC win with a Herb-structured team

again, the key word here is structure

depending on only gavin grant to win for us is not structure

Herb would have been in the same predicament as Sid.... maybe even worse with our lack of shooting.

I think we would have been a hair better based on the fact that these players were recruited for his system and are more familiar with it.... but we wouldn't have been much better off.

Judging Sidney this year or the next is pointless IMO. I think we'll be able to see how good/bad of a coach he is a few seasons from now when Mays and Williams are freshmen.

That'll be Fells and McCauley as SR's
Costner, Degand, Fergie, and Horner as JR's
Next years class as Sophs (Hopefully Hickson will stay, if he's as good as advertised)
Williams, Mays, (And another?) as Freshmen

Hopefully by then we can have some kind of experienced depth and athleticism. As of now, we're in a new system, we're thin, and we're extremely young. I've pretty much conceded this and next year (And no, I never thought we'd even be an NIT team this year)

I like sid's offensive designs. Simple, efficient, and based fundamentally off of inside play. It's redundant to say that defense is our problem. We can't dictate flow if we can't make defensive stops.
