I'm looking to get a 37-40" LCD Tv sometime in the next couple of weeks. What do you recommend as far as brand and price? I would like to get some less than $1600 if possible but could go more if needed.

I got this TV for $899 at Best Buy online with a free surround sound system. It was a steal and I love it. It is on sale right now for $999. A great deal IMHO.

^^^I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not, but we purchased our 40" Samsung LNS4095D from Amazon last November. The price was hundreds lower than the local retailers, and combining that with free shipping (ordered Saturday, received the following Thursday) and no tax, Amazon is one of the better ways to go.

It accepts a signal from a 1080 source - it's 1080p, although that won't do us any good until 1080p games come out on the 360 and/or TWC decides to upgrade.

No, it isn't noisy, although I'm not sure which type of noise you're talking about. Be a little more specific and I'll let you know if it applies

Overall, I'm extremely happy with the purchase. My only gripe is that it takes a few seconds for the TV to completely turn on from the time you press the "On" button, but that's minimal compared to the rest of the features.

gotcha in that case, no it isn't noisy, although I don't believe we have anything set to upconvert (the 360 is set to 1080p and TWC is set to whatever the highest current setting is...720p?).

Make sure you monitor the price that Amazon offers (If you do decide to go with Amazon) - they'll price match for 30 days. The price wound up dropping from $1899.99 to $1769.99 after we ordered, and Amazon refunded the difference.
