I heard the alarm go off in the 1130 building this morning at around 9:40. About 5 minutes later I saw some smoke then the fire department arrived about 5 minutes later and put the fire out. Some of the people who came out of the building said the fire was started by a cigarette. Anybody else know any other details?

Cheap as dirt, close to campus, sketchy neighborhood. All sorts of people live there. There are college students, ghetto crackheads, old foreign people, etc.

They are parking nazi's. If you have a friend parked there at towing hours, they WILL be towed. Put your sticker in the wrong place on your car, you WILL be towed.

Several food places easy to walk to. The bus stop is accross the street. The first year I lived there they had two bus routes (every 15 minutes one would come), but that changed. The second year, they came every 30 minutes (1 route, 2 buses). However, if any of the other buses have trouble, that is the first route they start pulling buses from. When they pull a bus, it sometimes takes an hour. If it is raining, they would also pull a bus for one of the busier routes.

Its also the Preiss company. They are very bitchy. Move in was a disaster. The carpet was atrocious when we moved in, and we specifically asked that it be replaced. The workers (who didn't speak a word of English) came about three hours after the starting move in time. We had to take EVERYTHING out of the apartment then wait for them. We were also the first of God-knows how many apartments they needed to work that day.

The price and the proximity to campus attracted me to U. Oaks and I am happy with both those aspects of the apartment complex. The wolfline has been very reliable and convenient for me especially since they started online GPS tracking of the buses. However, as CapnObvious mentioned, it is in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood but I have never been approached or threatened by anyone on the streets. I do of a few people who have had their cars broken in to and their speakers/CD players stolen while in the parking lot. I have seen several cars severely damaged on the street beside U. Oaks and a Jeep had its tires and wheels stolen and was left sitting on blocks. I think this problem can be solved by not parking on the street and not leaving nice equipment in the open for passersby to see. I disagree about the towing situation as I have friends over quite frequently during towing hours and they've never been towed. My experience with the maintenance crew is limited but the few times we had to call them it did take some time for them to come out and fix the problems. The problems were minor though and the response may be quicker for more pressing issues. In general, I am happy with my experience at U. Oaks and I feel that the pros outweigh the cons.
