First, I want a .45 Springfield XD in the 4" model.

I also want either a 30-06 or maybe a .308 rifle. Anyone know of any good deals on any of these?

I'm not particular to a certain model/brand...

Skip the springfield. I have heard of too many customers @ Personal Defense complaining about jamming/misfeeding. Personal Defense has a few used ones if that is the route you want to go. You can also rent one before buying it down there also.
I was there today and saw some used 30-06 and .308 rifles for sale. I dont know much about rifles so it would probally be best to go talk to them.
Lawmans is only 2 mins away from Personal Defense so go check them both out before you make a decesion
Personally I love my Sig p220 .45

the factory clip works flawless, but i have another "colt" clip which jams once in a white, and a "shooting star" 10 round clip, which is guaranteed or your money back not to jam, it jams.. so ill be sending it back.

How are the prices at the gun show compared to local shops? Are they flexible if you bring cash? I'm looking to pick up a Taurus 24/7 9mm in stainless. I've read some good reviews about it. Anyone have personal experience with the 24/7 series?

I've put about 400 rounds through a .45 XD and didnt have a single problem. I'll do some more research on this though...

Ive put 2000 rounds through my Sig P220 .45 without a failure. Ive put 700 through my Sig P239 chambered in .357sig without a failure. My Sig Mosquito 22LR is a whole nother story though. Its headed back to the factory for some free adjustments

Depends what you are looking for. Semi auto or revolver? In that price range there are alot of good used guns. Hit up the local gunshops and see what fit you the best. Its best to let the gun pick you instead of getting something because of price,looks ect,ect

Yeah a few word of mouth stories from the same shooting range is not a good sample to compare a gun on. There could be other circumstances that lead to jamming such as third party clips or weak springs that cannot push the next round up quite fast enough, which might become a problem with rental guns and clips that have so many rounds put through them. Again, it could be true, but somehow I think if there was a major problem like that the XD would not have been selected as the the 'NRA Handgun of the Year' for 2003.

they are alright, i'm not crazy for doa. frame seems a lil flimsy but wasn't bad shooting gun.

love my sig 220. i'm prolly gonna get a beretta 96 next. my buddy has one and the first time i picked it up i had 2 in grouping at about 20 yds. good feel and smooth action.

1. PDHSC is a Springfield dealer, and they are good folk.

2. Are you looking for a hunting rifle or something for shooting up targets/plinking? For hunting, PDHSC regularly has used .308s and .30-06s (and .270s and .243s, although not as many) around with scopes and all, for pretty cheap. For just blowing shit up, get a Spanish FR-8 carbine and don't look back. Or look into a CETME.

I think I'm going. If you know more or less what stuff should cost, there's lots of stuff there at reasonable prices. I think of it as a giant-ass gunshop, rather than some kind of discount mart. Beware assholes trying to sell stuff for +$200 markups, though. (More of a milsurp issue, so you might not be affected.)

Glock makes great guns. I personally like the Sigs better. Like I said in an earlier post, dont pick a gun because of what you have heard about it. Go shoot several and pick the one that you are comfortable with.

my favorite handgun- HK P7 M8. its probably a little out of most peoples price range, but a hella nice gun. from draw its the fastest ready to shoot gun, and also most accurate out of the box handgun ever made. if you're getting a gun, get the best.

Is there any kind of internet reference for finding general costs and pricing? Also are there any permits or anything required for purchasing rifles? I know I a year under for buying handguns, but I was considering picking up an older eastern military rifle (SKS or Kalashnikov probably). I've put hundreds of rounds each through my XD .45 4" and my XD .40 3" and never had a single jam...course if you're using a range's gun you have to expect them to get abused

Theres a reason the XD won the NRA handgun of the year in 03 and its not because they jam all the time

haha yes i agree $1000+ is a little out of my range for a handgun

you oughta check out the Tauras PT series...2005 handgun of the year...I got the PT145 subcompact .45 a few months ago...polymer and stainless...10+1 .45 (though they have them in .40 and maybe 9mm)...very nice compact size and weight, very accurate, well made...also I only paid about $420...this is the one I have http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?id=40&category=Pistol (although mine has the universal rail mount unlike the one in the picture)

^you can get a 10/22 at most gunshops, though not necessarily in the finish you might want (i prefer stainless steel)...but that is a great gun...very easy to take apart to clean...shoots pretty accurately, not much kick, lots of accessories

its a bump at the bottom of the grip safety that gives you a reference on where your hand is, so your presentation is the same every time without having to re grip the pistol. and it helps to disengage the GS while its in your hand for people who have problems with that.

.308 is a standard sniper/deer hunting round... a .30 caliber round is far from massive
