you just need to join a metal band and make shows happen. me and some people need a drummer 1/14/2007 9:03:24 PM |

i'm not a good enough drummer to be solid in a metal band...my double bass and blasting are lacking
however, i could do a bit of rhythm guitar and definitely vocals. 1/14/2007 9:09:51 PM |

oh i know, but i need a place to play/practice. right now i keep my kit in my townhouse and never play it because of the neighbors. if you know of a place I could keep them and play whenever I want, I'll shake that rust off real quick 1/14/2007 9:14:54 PM |

im looking into finding a reasonable rental space. 1/14/2007 9:18:29 PM |

i know of a great place...it's at the corner of peace and west streets, but I can't afford it alone. The rent is something like $400-500/month for the big ones, but I'm sure he has some cheaper units available...haven't called him yet. The place is great though...24 hour access, electronic entry and individual alarm systems, big spaces, completely customizable, and a cool landlord.
Would you be interested in going in? I'd probably need to split it between at least 2 other people
[Edited on January 14, 2007 at 9:22 PM. Reason : and of course climate controlled, each unit has its own thermostat] 1/14/2007 9:21:43 PM |

god damn. that sounds steep as shit.
you can go to drumlab for $10/hour for a drummer, $20 for a band and you get a drum set, pa and bass set up.
volume 11 sounds the same as what youre stating, but i dont know thier rates. 1/14/2007 9:32:31 PM |

i could be wrong...the guy i know that has a space there pays like 180 or something a month and shares it with one other guy that pays most of the rent. it ain't cheap, but i think the place is worth it. they have a drum kit, several amps and stacks, a 40-somethign channel mix panel and monitors/PA, computer/desk, synth/stand, a couch and a couple recliners, and a loft they built where they keep fridges, magazines, chairs, bongs, etc
and all with plenty of room to spare.
i just need a place I can go whenever I want for however long I want...I keep weird hours. This type place could be another apartment, the kind of place you spend a lot of time at. Keep things like desks and weights and whatever, only primarily a band practice space.
But if you have other ideas or know of cheaper places with comparable benefits, I'm all ears.
[Edited on January 14, 2007 at 9:39 PM. Reason : volume 11 is a studio, not really a storage area, right?] 1/14/2007 9:38:12 PM |

unless I'm being dense as fuck I can't find anything about a place to store my gear, and I doubt it has 24-hour access if so...I'll give them a call tomorrow though to make sure. I'll also try and find out what rates the guy has available at the place I mentioned. 1/14/2007 9:47:32 PM |

if i recall correctly, this is a place that i was told about over a year ago that has the things you listed for the other. It was when i was looking for a place to practice, but we ended up at ample storage on glenwood.

yeah, that looks like the tab I tore off and lost last time I was there. I was going to call my friend and get some real numbers but his phone's off apparently.
What's up with ample storage? 1/14/2007 9:55:03 PM |

i dont remember what we paid, but its a decent drive from campus area, and its just a storage garage. no frills, no PA, etc. 1/14/2007 10:00:10 PM |
paerabol All American 17118 Posts user info edit post |
In a pinch I'd take that, but I've played with a couple different groups of people that had decked out storage facilities, and it's something I'd be willing to shell out for. You gotta spend your money on something, right?
What I definitely want though above anything is something reasonably close by and all-hours access, or at least real late. 1/14/2007 10:02:44 PM |

yea, if vol 11 is reasonable, it would be keen. shits like 2 mins from campus area. plus i dont have a PA anymore and really cant afford to shell out for one right now 1/14/2007 10:07:53 PM |

sweet.
even if a place is 400, if we had 6 people it would only be 67 per person. 1/14/2007 10:11:22 PM |

Yeah, I know at least a couple other people interested in sharing a space, so I don't think it'd be too hard to spread the cost out a little. I could probably confidently afford 120 a month, maaaybe 150. I don't have a whole lot of equipment, but I have my kit (2005 pearl exports), a regular ol' peavey 12" amp, a couple mics (dynamic and condenser), a stereo XLR/quarter-inch recording interface that records to a PC with cubase or similar, and cords/pedals/stands/etc.
I'd love to find a good PA and vocal monitors, or recruit someone that has one. 1/14/2007 10:23:08 PM |
