^ They do more higher-level stuff. You can't just take in your paper and say "edit this, please." 1/16/2007 11:22:09 PM |

I'm going by Quote : | " We will gladly help visitors become better editors and proofreaders of their own texts. We will not, however, edit or proofread papers. If a tutor notices that a visitor's text has many run-on sentences, the tutor will point one or two out, discuss how to fix them, and then be present as the visitor corrects his or her own text. This is a lengthy process, but having a tutor "correct" a paper does not help the visitor learn anything. This policy is quite firm." |
If they say that and don't actually follow it, so be it.1/17/2007 9:12:32 AM |

He said it was due Thursday, so I doubt he has too much time left. Plus, I already helped him out of the goodness of my heart 1/17/2007 10:15:37 PM |

all through school I had my mom proof all my papers, she made so many corrections it didnt even look like my paper after it was all done. I thought I would have problems in college, but thank god for email! My mom is a English teacher, maybe that is why I always did well in those classes

Exactly. Editing has to be constructive. The last thing that you want is someone to go ape on your paper when there is an immediate deadline.
Better yet, if it is last minute (like within a day), I would just make sure that the gramar and spelling is perfect and just hand it in.
Succesful editing usually requires one day for the person to read/correct it, two days for you to make corrections, and then one more day for your editor to make final corrections.
But again, there is a huge difference between an editor and a writer. Often times, a good writer will go through your work and tear it to pieces because it is not to their standards. Editors, on the other hand, find ways to take what you give them and make it more clearer and concise (i.e. they can trim your paper from three to two pages).
One more thing, people that are usually proficient at editing are research professors and graduate students (because they more than likely went through it with grad apps). try to find one of these that will help you and give it about a week.1/18/2007 12:38:06 AM |
