"Fourteen of the city’s business and civic leaders resigned from the Carter Center’s advisory board on Thursday to protest former President Jimmy Carter’s recent criticisms of Israel and American Jewish political power."

In addition, there are charges of plagiarism being aimed at Carter concerning Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid:

Quote :
"Harsh allegations over President Carter's new book on Israel and the Palestinians came into sharper focus Thursday when a former top aide to Carter said the book appeared to contain maps that were 'unusually similar' to those in an earlier book."

can you provide some sort of proof of the anti-semetic comments? are they anti-jew or anti-israel (i'm sure you know the difference).

you do realize that not all palestinians, in the middle east and abroad, are in the same vein as that pic you've posted to apparently represent opposition to israel, right?

To: booger: Perhaps you should have read my post more closely. In addition, all the evidence one needs is in Carter's recent writing and remarks.
Quote :
"[Carter] revealed that he is something akin [emphasis added] to an anti-Semite."

To sarijoul: Have you read every holy book or writing in its entirety that you comment on? The Bible? The Qur'an? The Torah? The Bhagavad Gita and others?

To 0EPII1: Leave it to you to inject the disgusting image of fellatio on a coma victim into the debate. Perhaps you have experience with this, yes? I never said the Israelis were "untouchables." Specifically, I simply would like to see a more balanced debate about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and responsibilities on either side--and the debate in the MSM and many mass consumption books is rarely balanced. Generally, I am just tired of seeing Jews persecuted and unfairly criticized as they have been for centuries--now by a former US president who was one of the weakest leaders the world has ever witnessed. Leave the Jews alone--isn't it enough already?

sounds good to me. You pick one of the two for a 'balanced debate'

1) we strip Israel of all its military power. give them some rocks and some c4, throw in a few AK's too.

OR

2) we arm palestine to the teeth with Tanks, Jets, Bombs, APC's, Artillery, Body Armor, and pretty much anything else Israel's army has.

then we can have a balanced everything.

^^so you haven't read a word of the book right?

i've at least read some of each of the books (or at least translations of the books) that you've mentioned. i wouldn't claim to make any horribly informed statements about many except perhaps the bible (and i'm certainly not a scholar on that by any stretch of the imagination). not to mention, there have been hundreds (and in some cases thousands) of years of scholarship on these books from which to gain insight. you guys are basing your opinions on this book on a few news articles about people reacting to the book (which they may or may not have read) and your previous opinions about jimmy carter and his scholarship.

Are these people--fourteen business and civic leaders--right-wing kooks who just want to make Carter look bad? Of course not! If you want to know what's in the book, do your own research. For the purposes of this thread, the main story is the resignations; the secondary story is the alleged plagiarism. Discuss.

To all you defenders of Jimmy Carter, he was recently asked the following:

A forum moderator: "With the new Democratic Congress, do you believe the US will be better able to achieve peace in the Middle East?"

Carter (flatly replied): "No."
