That's one of the big reasons they don't build them anymore. That and the very low natural frequency and harmonics of a crankshaft that long. Hit resonance and shatter the crank and pound out the bearing saddles.

an old man told me once about a guy who ran a frick sawmill with a Buick straight 8. He said he had a foot throttle rigged up so he could rev it up right before the carriage got to the blade since car motors don't have governors. 1/16/2007 8:18:04 PM |
