Yeah it's a pain in the ass... I tried to install it on my Core 2 Duo machine, but the chipset was poorly supported and after numerous tiny upgrades to no avail, for the hell of it I tried installing it on my slightly older server machine. And it worked. The patched DVD even includes an Nvidia driver. So after installing, I have fully accelerated video and integrated Ethernet. Audio doesn't work, but there's ways around it.

Give these guys a little more time and it'll be trivially easy to install. I have to say that I'm impressed right now.

I'm running Dual boot XP/OSX on my Shuttle SN95G5.

Everything works out of the box in 10.4.8. The install only took like 15 minutes! Paying the 99 bucks for the ADC membership so I can legally run this thing was WELL worth it, even if I won't be able to upgrade past 10.4.9

nvidia Geforce 6800GT running BEAUTIFULLY, fully accelerated.
SATA works great
ethernet, sound, firewire, usb are all working great.

The whole system runs smooth as damn butter, even with the SSE2 patch for my AMD 64 3500+. I can't even imagine how smooth it would run with native SSE3.

Downside is this is probably the last release where you can legally run this on a hackintosh. As of 10.5.1 the EULA is changing, basically outlawing this type of stuff. Not to mention JaS has called it quits with the integrated installers. I'll be happy for years with 10.4.8 though, hopefully Apple will fucking wise up and release this legitimately in the next year or so.

Sidenote: Just based on the RIDICULOUS amount of hardware support Apple is adding with every point release, it really looks like they are gearing up for a vanilla version of OSX sometime in the not-so-distance future.

^^^^Actually, because of the current ToS for Apple Developers, it's legal to do pretty much whatever the heck you want to your Dev copy of OSX. This only applies if you are a paying ADC member though, you can't just go buy OSX and be legal installing the modified version for your PC.

But they've closed the terms "loophole" for 10.5 and beyond apparently, not to mention apparently the TPM structure will be changing with it so the current methods will no longer work.

Not really. You have to download a modified installation DVD, and you may very well have compatible hardware. If not, and you feel like pursuing it, you can buy compatible hardware for next to nothing compared to Apple's offerings and get better performance.
