^ supposed to have all 7 completed by 2011, so i guess that means the next one should come out within a year.

thats what i like about martin's books. there are so many major characters he just kills them off left and right but their is always another one to take its place.

yeah, i noticed i'd switched them. too late

Yah, I totaly understand, the character's should never die and they need be treated like they have extra ordinary powers, too. Also, they should have unicorns to ride on!

hrm... I don't know if anyone else had this experience, but after a chapter or two I got really in to certain characters. in the 3rd and 4th books I took paper clips and sectioned off chapters and read through story lines. could have read it either way, but it was just kinda neat to be able to choose which stories I wanted to read about at a given time, depending on my mood etc.

I'll ask my friend if he's heard anything about the next release

they are intertwined to an extent ... but there definitely certain plots in the story that can be enjoyed one at a time. if I was bored with a character or storyline, I can come back to it. Worked out fine for me.

a lot of the kid characters are really idiots for the majority of the first 3ish books. Araya continues inot the fourth but with all the shit she's gone through it's kinda expected for her to be maladjusted

i'm guess since they are trying to make each book into a full 22 episode season they'll have the cliffhangers just be the end of episodes, end of season kinda stuff

Movie About Song and Ice of Fire < HBO Series

They tend to do a really good job with thei series (hell look at all those awards), but if I only watch one episode it will HAVE to be the one that Martin scripts himself!

God I hope they don't fuck up Tyrion....and the direwolves (almost have to be CG)....and don't forget Sam...or Hodor....or or or...so many things they can fuck up. BUT if they pull it off...HOLY SHIT!

Thankfully if one book = one season then we should be all current with his publishing forcast!

Well...if Martin is co-directing (or whatever they said he was doing) I really can't see him allowing them to screw with it.

I want his babies.

Cancel Rome because its expensive and yet go ahead and greenlight a fantasy series since that, obviously, will be cheaper.

It sounds like Martin is pretty involved creatively co-producing/writing and I know he's said umpteen million times that he wouldn't let them go to other formats (even audio) unless he felt they could be done properly.

Quote :
"When is 5 due?"

Last update on his site says he hoped to have the draft done by year-end 2006, I think editing process is about a year, so looks like late 2007 at best.

Also from Martin's website:
Quote :
"I met David and Dan in California last fall, when I was out for LACon, and we discussed the show over a long lunch (the restaurant was packed when we arrived, and completely empty when we left, and the waiters had started setting up for dinner). They impressed the hell out of me, and I'm really looking forward to working with them. They're both bright, passionate, enthusiastic. They know the books inside and out, they get the books, and they're committed to bringing my story to your television screens... not a vaguely similar story with the same title (ala Earthsea, or what passed for same on the Sci-Fi Channel). A Song of Ice and Fire should be in very good hands.
As for my own involvement, I'll be scripting one episode per season. I'll also serve as co-executive producer on the show, along with Vince Gerardis and Ralph Vicinanza of Created By, and Guymon Casady of Management 360. I have already had a number of emails asking why I am not writing more of the scripts myself. Three big reasons: A Dance With Dragons, The Winds of Winter, A Dream of Spring. As much as I'd like to be a part of the show on a daily basis, as I once was on The Twilight Zone and Beauty and the Beast, the novels take priority. David Benioff and Dan Weiss are very talented writers, but even they can't adapt a book that hasn't been written. "

I'm so excited! I need to reread the books too, but I don't want it to be like HP where I've read to 1st book 100x, the 2nd 75x, etc just so I can read the 5th or 6th book and remember what happened

Yeah, I definitely dont want to read his first four books 4 more times....

So is there any idea when its going to be on HBO? If they just bought the rights, it could probably take a couple years till they get it to the screen....

I've never read anything in the fantasy genre. Ever.

But I'm always interested in new things. Is this series really that good? Would it be that way for someone who's never read fantasy before? (I know it depends on the person, but make some generalities for the sake of an interested potential reader.)

I think it would be a great series even for a non-fantasy reader, as long as you're not put off by the length of the books. The first one is priced relatively low so it might be worth a shot. The series is a little light on the fantastical elements compared to most (although it picks up more later); the characters are all human, not elf, orc, etc.

Hell yeah there are a shitload of people... While reading A Feast For Crows I kept having to reference http://www.towerofthehand.com/ to find out who the fuck did what in the previous books. All those "unimportant" minor characters who had only one sentence to say previously come back and bit you in the ass.

Most likely. Popular speculation is that Jon is the secret Lyanna wanted Ned to keep, and that's why Ned didn't want to tell his wife who he was unfaithful to. He didn't refute it when she came with an accusation, but that's because he kept his promise to Lyanna.

So what'll be interesting is what goes on with Jon and Daenaerys (I haven't read AFfC yet if anything happens there). I imagine they'll probably continue on with the whole brother/sister hooking up tradition of their "family" and unite. That'd be fucking awesome.
