Haha, that is pretty awesome. I like how he wished good luck to someone who was going to try to beat his face in.

It's not that I don't understand why there's fighting in hockey.

I don't understand why a lot of hockey fans call NBA players thugs, when there's 5000% more thuggish behavior in their sport.

^^^ Because they agreed to fight instead of throwing a punch and then running away, they're thuggish?

Because hockey players are white boys from surburbia.

and the majority of ballers a black boys from the inner cities.

White people can do no harm.

Don't try to tell me that that always happens.

Even the announcers were surprised at that.

I'm not talking about these guys specifically.

It really is the biggest double standard in sports. I struggle to understand it. It appears as if they are "glorified" by the fighting, as the commentators joke about having good dialogue from one of the mic'd up fighters.

In baskettball, the players are demonized and fined.

b/c those are the rules in hockey. They have pads, they hit each other up against walls and can check each other. Those are the RULES! Where in the basketball rule book does it say you can check a guy up against the scorers stand or as hes coming down court just deck him??? No where, get outta here with that racist bullshit

The announcers were surprised that they got it on tape and that Georges wished him good luck. Panger knows as well as anyone that there is proposal and agreement involved in almost every fight. Since the instigator rule (hockey's worst rule, btw) was put in place, I'd say less than 10% of fights involve one guy going after another and giving him no choice (see Jason Doig, 2004). While it's true that it's usually not that civil, it usually IS that civil between guys who fight for a living.

there's a thing called tradition in sports

here's another tradition
what other professional sport do you see teams line up after a defining playoff series game to shake hands sending the winning team to the next round

I love it so very much when Roy comes flying in. LOVE IT.

Now I need to find the next game, when the wingers switched sides on the opening faceoff of the game in order to fight as soon as the puck dropped.

There sure is a penalty for it though. It's a part of the game that happens when people bash into each other all game and has been for a long, long time.

It's not like it's taking the leap from "omg he touched me, FOUL" to full scale brawl like the NBA does, not to mention that random fans aren't getting trampled when the fights happen.

it's probably b/c hockey is full of the following:
-players kicking photographers
-players beating up fans
-coaches and players using racial slurs toward fans
-players having numerous illegitimate children
-players getting arrested for drug possession
-players getting arrested for gun play
-players getting arrested for beating their wives
-players bitching about having to practice
-players sitting out games to promote their shitty rap album

or is that basketball? i'm not sure.

^^^^ Most of those things were one time incidents, due to 2 or 3 retards.

And I guess if you want to pretend that all hockey players are faithful to their wives and never use any illegal substances, that's up to you I guess.

And I don't pretend that this is just about Hockey either, baseball gets a pass on thuggish behavior in the media too.

^maybe they do, but the arent so blatant about it, thats why the NBA gets bad press, because in comparisons of players in different leagues, the nba has more negative shit going on with the players such as drug, weapons charges, bastard kids, etc etc etc; and the players dont seem to try and hide it, they are so wrapped up in their own ego they think they are untouchable, and gods gift to basketball, just a bunch of arrogant pieces of shit.

^^wrong again, you guys are leaving out the fact that NBA viewer ratings are higher than both

hockey and baseball. So everything these guys do is under the microscope!! So stop making it

seem like NBA guys are the worst bunch. When Wayne Gretzky fuckin wife is doin illegal shit

then you know something has to be wrong!! But how quickly did the public forget about that?

Bunch of one-sided idiots you guys are.

Dammit100 your racism exceeds you.

how do ratings compare to what we're talking about.

Just because more people watch basketball doesn't mean that's why we hearabout it mre. We hear about it mroe because they do more shit.

...i.e.. I hate nascar, but I think it's the most watched "event" (it's not a sport)... I don't see Nascar drivers all up in the bad news.

Answer

I guess if noone ever really payed attention to what you were doing, they wouldn't pick up on the aspects of your life such as drug use, domestic violence, etc.

THANKS FOR IGNORING THE PART WHERE I SAID "EVERYTHING THESE GUYS DO IS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE". THEY'RE FAMOUS, THEY'RE IN THE NBA, YOU RECOGNIZE THEM IN THE MALLZ. THE AVERAGE MLB, NHL PLAYER GOES UNNOTICED.

Fighting is more acceptable in hockey cause it's a more blue collar sport. It's like football, it's expected to be physical. If a basketball game is physical, it's a very ugly game cause then you have a foul called by the ref every trip down the floor and we're then treated to the hilarious nonsense that is Shaquille O'Neal attempting a 15-footer.

That's one reason the excessive penalty calling in the past couple years by the NHL sucks. Let the boys play!

That's fucking stupid. Baseball has the most beat writers of every sport, is the most covered sport in the three largest metropolitan areas in the country, and is the ONLY sport going on for the majority of it's season (unlike any other major sport in America). To say that there isn't a microscope on baseball is downright retarded considering the steroid coverage as compared to similar issues in a sport like the NFL... plus I'd like to see ratings comparisons for the NBA and MLB because I'm not so sure that is even correct.

[Edited on January 19, 2007 at 5:35 PM. Reason : btw... you are hcnguyen, correct?]

The only reason people may recognize NBA players in the "mallz" is cause they see a guy that has to duck to get through the doorframe.

Purely as a test of the typical NBA player and he is famous (and anyone can answer), who's shooting the free throw?

Regardless, as far as popularity (and players then you could interpolate), it is very well defined:

1st - Football
2nd - Baseball
3rd - Basketball
4th - Hockey

Okay, i agree hockey players = angels

they do no wrong, they treat their wives perfect and all are model citizens.

we can let them fight on television and talk about how awesome it is!!

when fball players do it, they're thugs and drug dealers.

(both are contact sports)

One involves more white people, the other more black people.

That's because there are less than 50 competitors in NASCAR.

Fewer than on a single NFL team.

2 seconds on google: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/story/2005/11/24/dick_pound051124.html

"Dick Pound, chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency, believes as many as one-third of the NHL's 700 players may be taking some kind of performance-enhancing drug."
