My prescription expired a couple months ago and my eyes have not gotten any worse over the last year, I don't want to pay $100 just to sit down for 5 minutes and have him tell me that, and they won't sell me any contacts at their shop without a prescription, does anyone know where I can buy them without a prescription?
my eyes are -3.0 and -3.25 if anyone has the same prescription and wants to make a little cash 1/19/2007 3:22:24 PM |

legally, no.... the online places might not ask too many questions however
I know you're looking to save money, but the exams are a good way to monitor the health of your eyes. Don't neglect that aspect of the exams. 1/19/2007 3:41:35 PM |

i had to suck it up to get new contacts, cost me 110 dollars to have someone tell me information i already knew. but it is a mafia, and they have you by the collective testicles. however, you can buy unlimited amounts, I bought a 2-3 year supply since your prescription is only valid for 1 year. I may buy more next year before it expires. 1/19/2007 3:44:39 PM |

online is your best bet, but many of those still require proof of a current exam.
My script runs out this month, but i just bought $150 worth of contacts, so I'm good for a while. 1/19/2007 3:45:28 PM |

i went through the same dilemma couple of years back.....ended up paying $110 for another exam do like ^ said....stock up a month before prescription runs out...buy from the online places for cheap
i believe the online will require proof of exam......
awhile back i would call the optometrists to get a copy of my prescription details so i could order online and they wouldn't give it to me since they wanted the business themselves.....
i could be imagining things but i think they passed a law forbidding them to do this.....also just look on your lens package. the other minor info like curvature may not matter that much 1/19/2007 4:50:24 PM |

Damn. See a better optometrist. Dr. Croom (by the belltower), after I told him I didn't see anything in his selection of frames, gave me all the info I needed to get frames and contacts elsewhere.1/19/2007 6:54:17 PM |

Does your work not offer vision insurance or a flexible spending account for health expenses? Suck it up this time and pay the money for it, then take advantage of either of those two options in the future. 1/20/2007 12:44:24 PM |

Even though you may have been wearing contacts forever, its still important to go at least every 2 years for the health aspect of it, especially contact lens wearers. If you don't like it, wear glasses. Even then though. you are going to have to have an exam every time your eyes change+ pay for new glasses. I'm sure you don't go to a drugstore and ask for drugs without a prescription, this is no different. Be careful if you do get lenses from someone because if they are a different brand/material/curvature, etc. you may seriously hurt your eyes. 1/20/2007 3:01:52 PM |

Well I think it costs that much because even though for you it may take 2 seconds, think about the people that take FOREVER to get happy with their contacts and have to come back 100 times. You can't just be like well you were a bad patient, 90 bucks and you were a good patient, 20 bucks...Also, most places CL fittings include other health checks than just the regular exam ones.

i used 1800 contacts; was fine, just enter ur doctor and they will ship them to you.
If you don't have a prescription, just get someone else's info and buy them online. i was surprised how easy it was.
getting a checkup is good for glaucoma and shit, but unless you are having serious problems, save the 100 bucks 1/20/2007 7:03:00 PM |
