lol, I love this guy. He might be my favorite player. Hilarious..

Quote :
""One college game that's five fouls, right? ... 40-minute game at Duke, they got soft rims I'd probably score 84 or 85. I wouldn't pass the ball. I wouldn't even think about passing it. It would be like a NBA Live or an NBA 2K7 game, you just shoot with one person," he wrote."

he has nobody on the State staff to get back at, he hates Coach K for dropping his ass on the USA team.

He is by far my favorite player, and im so glad he got on the all-star team over Vince. I dont see how you can hate him, he back's up anything he says and is one of the best clutch shooters in the league.

is he the 2nd leading scorer in the nba while also averaging over 6 assists per game? yes

and oh yeah, the wizards are teh #2 seed in the East right now

who gives a shit ? 90% of the us team is shooters ... some scorer is going to have to sit out in place of a pass first point guard who can get people involved ...

be fucking realistic

Arenas probably should have made it, but the same case can be made for every other guard and probably most of the small forwards on the team. give it a rest.

and Standing in the NBA obviously has no bearing on the Olympics as noted by our wonderful performances the last few years.

being the 2 seed in the east is even more depressing.

^^i thought the reason Team USA has been underperforming is that we dont have ENOUGH shooters?

btw the best players in the game tend to score a lot of points

why do you think heinrich stayed on the team ? I'm close to positive it wasn't his wicked slashing moves to the hole

i just think arenas (at least until this season) has been underrated and underappreciated...i would take him over somebody like mcgrady in a heartbeat but he didnt have the national recognition since he played for the wizards, getting overshadowed by jordan, and then, well then ignored because he plays for the wizards

that I can agree with, but statements such as the above even in jest only hurt his claim that he can distribute the ball to a team full of super stars. SOMEONE on that team is going to have to take a back seat and pass the ball ... and eventually a "scorer" is going to have to be left off to make room for a passer,

he just happened to be the odd man out. a lot of people pissed and moaned about the schedule this summer so maybe some guys will decide not to do it next time and Arenas will get his chance to prove it

but knowing male athletes of this century he'll probably just throw a pouty fit and say he doesn't want to do it anymore.

arenas was 4-17 against duke then and he would go 13-51 against them now...they play better team defense than 95% of the teams in the nba which is why arenas didn't score as much in college. he's definitely a much better player now, but it is the nba...the spurs and the bulls are the only teams that play defense now, detroit did with larry brown.

he's a character though...

Quote :
"While with the Warriors, he once took a shower at half time in full uniform.[11] Before every game he would take a teammate's jersey and hide it in the locker room to make them look for it. Also, Arenas can often be seen playing online poker during half-time of games[3], instead of resting or preparing for the second half. "

Quote :
"On road trips, he will often eschew team outings on the town in favor of sitting in his room, ordering products from infomercials, such as a colon cleanser.[12] In the same interview he said he preferred sleeping on the couch than on his bed, and that he once ate 12 cheeseburgers while on a road trip with the Wizards in Canada."

Quote :
"You know how I always throw my jersey into the stands after a game? In Washington, they just go crazy for it. So in this commercial, that's what I'm gonna do with my shoes. I've just hit a game winner, and I throw these shoes. Everyone starts to react, and you see everything in slow motion. Everyone's pushing, shoving, doing whatever it takes to try to get to these shoes. People from the 400 level, they're jumping off the ledge, they're missing the pile, hitting nothing but chairs, and you can just see in people's faces like, Ooooh, that hurt. While all this stuff's going on, one of the shoes pops out of the crowd, and a little girl gets it and she takes off. A couple of people see she has it, and they start chasing her, and she's looking back running—and then she gets clotheslined by a kid in a wheelchair. So he picks the shoe up and says—he's gonna have the only line in there—"They said I couldn't get it. Heh. Impossible is nothing." And then he rolls off."

Quote :
"During the 2003-04 season, Arenas tried to vote himself into the All Star game, trading a pair of shoes and a jersey for a box of ballots "

Quote :
"During the 2006 NBA season, he began to shout the word hibachi as he took field goal attempts in games, explaining, "You know, a hibachi grill gets real hot. That's what my shot's like, so I've been calling it that: 'Welcome to the hibachi'." He has also stated that while he is scoring on opponents, he is "cooking chicken and shrimp" in reference to his "Hibachi grill," and that if his opponent wanted to double team him, he would "cook filet mignon" as well.[15]

On December 23, 2006, Arenas told The Washington Post he had begun replacing "hibachi" with the phrase "quality shot," a direct reference to Kobe Bryant who had felt Arenas' shot selection was questionable and that he seemingly lacked a conscience. "Out of that whole game I probably took two bad shots," Arenas would respond. "And for me not to have a conscience? You're right. When you're an assassin, you don't have a conscience." Nonetheless, Kobe stated that Gilbert Arenas is one of the most difficult players to guard in the NBA.[16]

On January 3, 2007, Arenas hit a very long game-winning three-point shot to beat the Milwaukee Bucks. In a post-game interview, Arenas stated that he did not shout "hibachi" or "quality shot." Rather, he told reporters that "My swag was phenomenal."
"

^you know it's true...name more than 5 teams in the nba that play great team defense...1 on 1 hardly anyone could stop arenas, but team defense is a different story.

the spurs play defense: arenas had 17
the bulls play defense: arenas had 10 (only 22 minutes) and 20
the grizzlies play decent defense: arenas had 3 points (32 minutes), but 38 the next time so that cancels out

it's hard not to like arenas though...he's been snubbed a lot in his life and overcomes it every time. coach k is a little too old school for a personality like arenas, much less a shoot first guard (although some duke players have been exceptions). TO should study arenas in the off season because he and chad johnson are about the only ones who can pull it off...although i think there are some things wrong with arenas...

^agreed...it's just the team concept that's lacking. there are some exceptional single defenders in the nba though (kg, ak47, kobe, billups, 90's payton, ben wallace, bowen, artest, duncan, and doug christie mainly)

To imply that any college team could stop a top NBA scorer because they play "team defense" is retarded. The Hawks or Celtics would own any college team, any time.

Why are there so many Duke fans on this board? Its distgusting. And Arenas is my new favorite player.
