This is just me and it's based on a long history and regional rivalries from when I was growing up.

I dislike three programs more than any others.

I loathe Duke because of the classlessness shown by Christian Laettner time and again in games against the program I grew up rooting for (also b/c he ended the dream season of '89!). I hate their Northeast fans who are the most obnoxious bunch of fucksticks I've ever had the disfortune of watching a game with. I did dislike Redick for a long time but I came to realize it wasn't him but the media portrayal of him. I think Lee Melchionni pisses me off more than any other Duke player though..

I hate Boston College. Not only were they a complete non-factor in Big East play since it's inception (they lost 16 straight and 26 of 27 to UConn at one stretch) they have are the most self-righteous university out there. They will always be the redheaded bastard to Notre Dame and now the ACC and it eats them up. When they got foolishly invited to the ACC they thought it was some sort of reflection on their on court performance (laff) instead of the Boston market, which the ACC severely miscalculated on. FUCK BCU and Bill Curley!

Finally, there is Maryland. Juan Dixon I can get with. Good guy and always interesting on interviews. However, whenever wee little Gary Williams doesn't get his way he crys 'cheater' and is a slimy, sweaty, bastard. Fuck him.

This brings me to UNC. I have no ill will towards them. In fact, I like Roy Williams and if it doesn't make a difference in conference standing to State I pull for them even sometimes and certainly against Dook and the Twerps. I like the style of play they have; it's exciting plus. I really disliked Rashad McCants though... but since I didn't grow up around ANY UNC fans or in NC I don't really have any problem with them.

my take:

historically is unc. thats just a lock no matter what.

from my own personal experiences with what happened while i was at school, its maryland. more bad blood happened between state in maryland during 99-04 then with unc.

Easy question for me, as I'm an old-school ACC fan from NC.

1.UNC - Went to State back when we still beat them half the time. Pissed in the old well, screwed and hung out with lots of twits in Chapel hill, Sang the fight song with the band in trucks and vans as they rode through UNC's campus.
2.Wake - Chris Paul and Kyle Visser. 'Nuff said.
3.Maryland -Gary Williams and Steve Blake turned this into a rivalry. All the others were existing ones, and this is a new one.
4.Duke - Even though I'm a Duke fan, I can definitely see why Duke is hated. I hate how the media snobs K's nob, and how the shitty New england fans cheer and go there.

Wake- we have just been alot like them in the past few years and the Paul incident really made it clear
Duke and UMD are tied-I hate Gary Williams and Blake for the UMD incident although I think they are a good program and like how Gary coaches
same for Duke I admire coach K and his wins and championships but I also hate the program and how he is so two faced...Reddick didnt help the cause neither did Laettner. but I think State fans identify with Duke alot because we both hate UNC so much

1) Dook-A bunch of rich pricks from NJ. You don't hear anything from their fans except from the months of Nov-March and you have to hear them say "football doesn't matter at Dook..wait until basketball season". Also refer to the game they had last night how some kind of way only .6 seconds goes off the clock when a guy basically took the inbounds pass (cause yes it was that bad of a pass) set up and drained a 20 ft shot (WOW! he's fast)
2) UNC-A bunch of rich pricks mostly from NC. I can't stand their rich-prick attitude. I can't stand how they wine/dine at football games. Football is about beer and BBQ. Plus they are UNC
3) ECU-My girlfriend goes there and they get a week-long hard on when they beat us in anything and because they had one good year in football and all of a sudden they are the best team in the south...we sucked last year, I get it
4) OSU-Even though they aren't in the ACC I hate Tressel (sp?) with that damn sweater-vest....even though I'm not a huge fan of FL....it was great to watch them get their ass handed to them.
5) VT-I work with a couple engineers from VT and I have to hear every damn day how they beat UNC and they are the best and how they are going to clear house with the ACC nexy year

I was born and raised on NC State basketball, and I hate Duke a thousand times more than Chapel Hill. I like the University. I like Chapel Hill. I like Franklin St. I was there for their latest NC. I like Dean Smith--not a big fan of all his basketball, but he stood up for his players in a ballsy way that I gotta get behind.

I root against Chapel Hill, but not the way I do against Duke. I hate, hate, hate Duke. I can't stand Coach K. I geuss a lot of this has to do with my love for this state; I don't consider Duke to be part of North Carolina.

It usually depends on who is higher ranked, and I will hate the higher ranked of the two more, and most years that is Duke.

Well, Growing up in NC I have strong opinions about ACC schools.

The obvious is UNC but for more reasons that most people. I actually grew up a Duke fan which, for some reason, is weird to most people in NC. I think that Coach K actually has a lot of class, doesn't encourage gaudy celebrations after a dunk, recruits white kids which for some reason, people really hate, and makes good teams out of ok talent. So for that and the fact that I am now hardcore Statefan and have been for half a decade, I loathe everything that UNC stands for. From popped collars to BMWs, tarheel blue makes me sick. Everyone I knew growing up (in Charlotte, 150 miles from Chapel Hill) loved them and everything about Chapel Hill. I had never even been and hated it. Since I've been going over the last few years to see games, etc., I hate it even more. My dad and I have always had a joke that they think god lives there, and I've had there fans assert that they actually beleive that.

On a side note, I thought I always hated Maryland because of the fans...but I've been quite a few times and I actually like hanging out up there. College Park is a dump but they are actually a lot like State fans.

My guess is he is from Raleigh and is talking out of his ass about the way the rest of the country feels about Duke. I grew up in CT and EVERYONE there is either a Duke fan or hates their guts. But they have a somewhat long history with UConn so that's understandable. Now it's to the level where both teams fanbases generally dislike each other because in the last 5-10 years they've been the best 2 programs in the country.

I now live in California and no one gives a flying fuck about Duke. They probably couldn't even name 2 players from the team this year. Not only is there no hatred for Duke there is simply a complete indifference.

I hate Georgia Fucking Tech. 2002 football season. #10 NC State (9-0 at the time) gets shit on at home by a 5-3 Georgia Tech team. It was all downhill from there for us that year losing next to Maryland at home and then to Virginia at Virginia. Thank God we fucked up Notre Dame in the bowl.
