I am having trouble with the following problem

3 molecules of each Type A, B, C, and D are linked together to form a chain molecule. for example Abcdabcdabcd or BCDDAAABDBCC

how many such chains could there be. If each of the a,b,c,d molecules were each unique it would be a simple permutation problem. How does this change though if the A,B,C,D's are not unique?
