the only escape i've had any time in was a regular gas model. put a bunch of miles on it over a few weeks in so cal. i liked it, it did really well all around. ran 90-100 across the high desert 2 lanes, lots of l.a. gridlock, etc.
hell, i even drove it balls out across the mojave desert on the mojave road. it's actually a desolate wagon trail from the pioneers that forged to the barstow area. winds across the desert floor/over the mountains. point being it's not an easy thing for such a vehicle to handle for that many miles, alot of true SUV's/trucks would have problems in spots. 1/31/2007 2:49:58 PM |

i remember one review, they tried to haul a trailer on it and broke the damn car. They noted in their review: Hybrids are not yet worthy to haul a trailer yet. Haha. Thought that was the funniest thing.

hybrids will basically require dealership service for the rest of their life. so buy one if you like and trust dealership service departments. cause joe blow at the service station on the corner isnt gonna bother himself to be trained on hybrid vehicles. no, they probably couldnt even do a brake job on a hybrid. 1/31/2007 8:31:58 PM |

good point. it'll probably still be a few years before many GOOD qualified techs start matriculating into the independent sector, so keep that in mind. 1/31/2007 11:12:56 PM |

My Jeep is ten years old with 170k miles on it. I'm hoping I can squeeze another couple years out of it.
I read some thing where Ford said the prices on the hybrids should come down in the next five or six years...hmm.
I imagine I'll be getting a used Escape. I dunno how that works. 2/1/2007 2:07:49 PM |

As mentioned above, the cost of service and parts will greatly overshadow any fuel savings. Just buy whatever small SUV gets the best mileage with a conventional gas engine. You'll be happier in the long run.
On the issue of balla-ness, I recommend pimp-ass rims for your new Suzuki. 2/1/2007 2:28:34 PM |

i won one last year in a drawing. it was quite possibly the biggest piece of shit i have ever driven. it was like a golf car only slower. if the ac was running it would not run off batteries so basically in the south buying a hybrid is worthless. 2/1/2007 5:12:30 PM |

Escape/Tributes are okay for their class. We survived a 65+ mph Tbone because of my friend's stupid driving and the Escape's toughness. But I would never get any hybrid from Ford.

yeah at first they wouldn't accept the name and said i could not have it. but then they decided all the other info was correct so they could not by the legal binding terms of the drawing deny me the car.
