^^yeah, my brother does that every year. i didn't realize they also take hair donations, i thought it was just sponsors. i'll just join in with him if they use the hair for something also.

You are now able to have dyed hair as long as its not bleached. I am growing mine for donation right now. Has to be 10" minimum for locks of love but I hear that the Cancer Society in Asheboro takes a minimum of 6". A girl from work just donated there but I am not sure the procedures yet.

now that i think about it more, how is that measured? length of the hair or length of the pony tail? i assumed pony tail, but maybe not. i've def. got the length from my scalp, but only ~4-5 inches with it tied up.

wigs aren't that expensive. what those numbers should say to you is that this "charity" is a SCAM and they are taking ppls hair and money and lining their pockets with it

I'd be OK with it if people weren't walking up to long haired people telling them to cut off their hair for a kid with cancer.

Most kids with cancer probably won't live to get a wig anyway.

I'd be mad if I thought I was cutting my hair for a needy child (alopecia or otherwise) and it ended up getting braided into some rich white lady's 'do.

So, they need hair of all colors ... that is, not counting gray. I guess they could have fun separating the gray out of my ponytail.

Mine's not getting cut until Metallica gets their act together or I reach the apotheosis of Rush's "I think I'm going Bald" (on Caress of Steel). The latter is the more likely.

i called my barber today (he was like lol, wtf have you been??). he said there are some girls that work there that handle doing such things for people. he's supposed to call me when he finds out specifics/details of what they're involved in.

my brother is checking out with st. baldricks to see what they do besides the sponsor thing.

i don't really care about getting any kind of haircut afterwards, so i could do it from home too. i'll just throw the #2 guard on my clippers.

locks of love is sounding a little shady, dunno about that. i don't think there is such a thing as a totally clean charity though.

MetalRed brought up an interesting point, what is the "going rate" for hair?

Pretty sure that all the Great Clips do it and your hair cut n style is free after that. You have to have at least 8 inches if you pull your hair down in a pony tail at the base of your neck. If I remember correctly they have info on their website.

Great Clips will cut your hair for free if you are giving it to Locks of Love and they also do all of the work that is involved in gathering and sending it.

bttt, anyone have any new suggestions? i haven't found anything that seems better than locks of love as far as donating the actual hair goes, despite some of the negative things i've read about them.

probably give it about another month or so i guess, i'm getting pretty tired of it.
