most interesting thing about the Reds will be to see if Josh Hamilton actually gets playing time. He's been told to expect to play every day in spring training and they have every intention of keeping on the ML roster.

^ I guess technically he is the former druggie from Athens Drive. Supposedly sober since October of 2005. Finally getting his chance and I hope he makes the most of it.

Actually this is his first real comeback. The guy had his life fall apart by his own doing... Now he finally has made it back by doing things the right way. He's worked hard to get back so in fact this IS his big chance. People with abuse problems do deserve a chance to get back on track if they can admit their problems and deal with them head on.

i don't think it's necessarily a comeback. There was a big article in the N&Blow about him cleaning up his life and blah blah blah a year or two ago.

The difference now is that he is with a new team who signed him under that special draft. If he doesn't work out, he'll get sent back to the devil rays with no obligation to the reds. The reds are probably seeing if he's worth keeping around or just going to send him back to the devil rays.

Well, best to him. The Reds' pitching could use the help.

^They could but it will not come from JH. He's an outfielder.

"Fast forward to December, and the Reds plucking Hamilton in the Rule 5 draft, ensuring he will spend this spring in a big league camp, getting an apparently legitimate chance to try and make the Reds, despite never having played above A ball. How legitimate a chance? Pretty legitimate, judging from this note from Cincinnati Post Reds beat writer Trent Rosencrans' blog:

"Another interesting tidbit is that Narron said he and Josh Hamilton have been meeting halfway between their hometowns in North Carolina, in a town called Smithfield, to work out several times a week. 'It's been a lot of fun watching him,' Narron said. 'He's a tremendous athlete. He's got great bat speed. The one thing that's really hurt him is he hasn't played the last couple of years. It's going to be a huge adjustment for him and hopefully he makes our ballclub.' Narron said his plan is to play Hamilton nearly every day and get him about 80-100 at-bats in the spring, no matter how he does. He'll also play him in all three outfield positions. 'There are very few players in the major leagues with the kind of talent he has,' Narron said. 'But when you haven't played above (Class) A ball, it's a huge challenge for him.'""

i hope he does do well this season.

I just don't want bad attitudes/players/people in the clubhouse (I don't know how he'll interact with the rest of the team). There are already too many sketchy players on the Bengals.

He's already doing good for the organization. It gives the reds fans/sportswriters something to follow during the preseason (and probably get attention at the national level too). I just hope he is able to contribute to the team through playing and not just through reputation.

Some of the fans are a little upset that more investments haven't been made in pitching. However, the reds just traded for some excellent prospect pitching talent not too long ago.

I wish Griffey would have never moved to the Reds, he has sucked it up since.

Reds win!

Cincy 5, Cubbies 1

Adam Dunn had 2 homers for 3 RBIs, Ken Griffey Jr. went 2 for 3, and Aaron Harang pitched 7 innings and only allowed an unearned run.

And to top it off, tied for NL Central lead with the Brewers.
