Best player in college basketball deserves his own thread. He should be the #1 pick in this year's draft regardless if Oden comes out.

Tonight at Texas Tech

37 pts, 23 RBs

Leading the Big 12 in PPG and RPG.

He is pretty damn good although you'd be hard pressed to find a 7'1 Center with Oden's potential. I'd have a hard time picking between those two if I was an NBA owner.

Durant is Kevin Garnett with more range - I love watching him play. No one can stop him and he is a dominant player. He needs muscle, but overall he's a force. Oden just hasn't impressed me much yet, but of course he's not a selfish as Durant and plays on a better team so his opportunities are limited.

I'd draft Durant just because he's fucking exciting and will put people in the seats. If Oden was charismatic like Shaq, then maybe I'd lean towards him, but it sounds like he may stay at OSU for another year anyway.

The learning curve from college to the NBA gets more substantial with height. Durant is great, but Oden's potential is greater in my opinion, and the NBA drafts a lot off of potential

Oden's getting up there in years, though, by the looks of him. Don't know how much he's got left in the tank.

I think good true centers are a little more valuable in the nba. Wade couldn't do it without shaq, Lebron can't get past the second round on his own, Melo can't either. But the Duncan's and Shaq's of the world make a big difference... I'm glad I'm not a gm though, it's not a decision i'd like to be responsible for...

So is Billy Gillespie going to go try and fight Rick Barnes because his players are hacking the crap out of Durant?

What would Rick Barnes do?

This decision is completely based on a team's needs. Ordinarily the tie goes to the big man. Remember, Oden is putting up really good numbers with only one hand. It is also common knowledge that big men have take longer to develop. I think Durant may still have the better career. But if Charlotte gets the 1st pick, they should choose Durant. But a team lacking an inside force (nets, wizards, sac) then they should get Oden.

I was six rows from that incident in 95, and win they showed the feel good clip of Barnes and Knight, and Barnes subsequent praise of Knight as the best coach ever, I immediately thought of Greensboro.

Durant is freaking ridiculous. Texas may need to go back to Durant every possession like they did to start the game. It's unreal seeing one guy battle it out with a team as talented as KU.

KU and UNC are the 2 most talented teams in the country IMO.

Quote :
"Kevin Durant of Texas was selected Friday as The Associated Press' college basketball player of the year, the first freshman to receive the honor.

The 6-foot-9 swingman finished fourth in the country in scoring (25.8) and rebounding (11.1) while leading the Longhorns to a 25-10 record, the Big 12 tournament championship game and the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Durant received all but two votes for player of the year from the 72-member national media panel that selects the weekly Top 25. Senior forward Alando Tucker of Wisconsin, the Big Ten player of the year, got the other two votes.

Durant, the Big 12 player and freshman of the year, shot 47 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 82 percent from the free-throw line. He averaged 36 minutes per game and led the Longhorns in steals and blocked shots. He had 20 double-doubles and scored at least 30 points a Big 12-record 11 times.

In Texas' five postseason games, he averaged 28.5 points and 9.6 rebounds."

leaving the door open for a return, which is fine. that is, until he sees the millions waved in his face from being the #1 pick. there's a time for good players to return to school, but this isn't one of them
